The AMS car is AWD. You can get this power into the new Z absolutely no problem. But, can you push it all through one stock R190 or R200 rear end and just 2 tires without destroying the diff, driveaxles and/or hardly able to get traction without serious mods?
The Q60 is able to divide that power and stress to both ends of the car.
I'm sure a market will evolve to support those that want to dominate the drag 1/4 with the new Z, but I just can't see a new Z running 9's with the driveline it's born with.

Now....another scenario....AWD new Z. I tried searching the 370Z forums and nobody ever seriously considered it. Knowing that the FM platform supports AWD, I wonder if the Z chassis variant has the room behind the transmission for the transfer case? Theoretically a determined shop may be able to build an AWD Z, even a 6MT AWD Z. The old R50 QX4/Pathfinder platform had ATTESSA transfer case and MT, so there is some chance a mixup of parts can get the 6MT mated to the ATTESSA AWD transfer case from an AWD Infiniti.

I mean anything is possible with enough money.

We'll figure out what's what once we start breaking shit at the track.

True, the potential of the VR30 is awesome, even for RWD, I hope Nissan delivers on that 400hp to start with or even understate it as BMW normally does. On a Z under 3500 lbs, I can't wait!

I wonder what an awd Z could do at the strip and track. Your always going to be limited by traction in an FR, but I don't think awd would automatically mean the fastest 1/4 mile time.

It would still be a riot you see 1000hp+ GTRs breaking traction from rolls and digs.

Most street RWDs are traction limited, that’s proven, those Mopars for example even with the Hellcat mill.

When I had my STi, it was one of the best holeshot out of corners, no chance of oversteering handfuls, just slight understeer inherent of AWDs.

Drag is different than road racing for sure. There's a reason why GT-Rs and the Cyber Evo dominated for so many years.

Not many of those fastest RWD cars have stock rear setup. The suspensions and rear end look nothing like what the stock body came with.

For stock drivetrains, I'd bet AWD is right up there.
Things beak VERY easy if you're not careful with AWD cars. Ask me how I know.

For your average streetcar I'd take AWD all day long. Once you start throwing tires on decently powered RWD cars it's a different story. It doesn't take any crazy work to have a RWD cutting better 60s than AWD. It's definitely harder to do driver wise, but that's about it.
