It's hard for me to tell exactly what is being said after, "which opens up the muffler, this one...". Then it sounds something like, "straight, it's just normal." Captions don't help for that part of the video.

Is it "normal" as in normal exhaust/no valve, or normal as in same exhaust stuck the way it sounds when not in Sport mode on the AT. I would think the first one as previously mentioned, but even if there is a valve that is in a set position on the MT, it can likely be modified/removed to open it up all the way permanently.
Yeah sucks that we only get little bits n pieces of info. But yeah he even says it definitely needs an exhaust after he says that 😂. Not a huge issue cuz im sure people are going aftermarket exhaust anyways
After the cameraman says, "Put it in Sport mode..."

Jonathan then says, "...the manuals don't have a Sport (mode)... so that's the downfall, when you get an automatic you hit Sport mode, which opens up the muffler, this one ... (sounds like he says "it's just normal") ... you can open it up all the time in the auto."
Then he does admittedly say, "It definitely needs an exhaust, but ...(inaudible)."

Either way I don't see why anyone is complaining. JDM culture is all about aftermarket and modifying the cars. A lot of Zs in the past, especially the 350Z and 370Z, get modified by a majority of owners. Hell, I plan on getting the automatic and I will, without a shadow of doubt, put an aftermarket exhaust on it.
1. It will sound better than stock, Active exhaust exhaust or not
2. It will offer much better performance than stock
3. Because it's a sports car and I want it to sound like a proper sports car

If paying money for an exhaust is off putting for anyone then you probably shouldn't get the car. You guys realize a set of good tires for the Z is going to run you $1000+ right? Oil changes every 3250-5000 miles max. Rotors and pads are fairly expensive. Hell, GAS is expensive now and the Z is far from a fuel efficient vehicle.

TL;DR
Having to pay for an aftermarket exhaust should be the very least of your concern, if any at all, when it comes to the new Z.

With the noise restrictions in Aus, probs a non issue for us

Update friends:

My guy *finally* got back to me... With nothing.

Said summer.

Wtf.

Why get me all excited with that "I'll be in contact with you on April 1st with more info" BS.

We have noise restrictions here too. Cops will pull you over and give you massive fines if you’re “stunting” around with unusually loud exhaust. A friend was regularly targeted with an exotic after market exhaust. Fines piled up and jeapardizes your license. That’s why I was looking at the Armytrix with dual mode with the quiet neighbour mode and open angry mode.

My older son bought his grand dads 20 year old V6 Commodore Executive from him when he got his licence three years ago, because he knew it had been looked after extremely well, dad and mum ( had an i20 which she traded in) were buying a I30 between them ( they are 80 now) and knew they wouldn’t get anything for trade in ( pre covid just)
He got a great car for $1000
He got some new rims, lowered it, replace headlights and tail lights, put in a new stereo with new speakers as the old ones were on the way out, did a refresh paint job ( which was needed after him driving it to uni daily, not from my dad) and lastly put a new exhaust on it.

He was happy with all but the exhaust because he said it’s not loud enough. He couldn’t buy a system in Aus as loud as he would like, and the only way would be for him to cut into the one he purchased to make it louder.
In the end he decided against it, because I reminded him about the noise restrictions, and that it would give the cops a reason to pull over a young kid in a hotted up V6 …so whilst you can hear him coming, it’s well within the limits

For me it is mainly not having the adjustable modes built into the car for the exhaust modes as sometimes you want to be able to quiet down an exhaust sytem and sometimes you want it loud.

My manual M140i have various drive modes which work with my aftermarket Remus cat-back exhaust system. This enables me to close the valves of my exhaust late at night so I don't annoy my neighbours.

Obviously there are aftermarket exhaust systems that allow you to adjust the valves via a remote like the Armytrix for example but it is more cumbersome to use a remote than to just have a button next to gear shifter.

True. I'll probably order whatever new downpipes and exhaust Fast Intentions offers before I even get the car 😂
Is Fast Intentions a pretty reputable go-to for aftermarket exhausts?

Yeah as far as I know. I had their test pipes on my 370 and they were high quality, no issues.

I had their Non-Resonated Carbon Fiber exhaust on my 370z and was planning on getting their TT kit before i totaled my Z. I would take their exhaust over my AWE if they made it for the b9 S4.

They are newer to the aftermarket game compared to the known HKS, Stillen, etc JDM heavy brands, but don't let that deter you from their products. Chris Forsberg himself used Fast Intentions Twin Turbo kit on his other 370z before he switched to the VR38. Only complaints i heard from people who switched away from Fast Intentions (usually went to Motordyne or ARK) were for those who wanted a deeper sound.

Ok, my Invidia Gemini was quiet until you put your foot into. And no drone on the hwy. I did not know there were aftermarket exhausts that would actually work with your OEM drive modes. That's brilliant. Seeing as how the new Z doesn't have any drive modes in the manual I guess I need to keep with the Armytrik with the remote to change it (I agree it is clumsy). Are there any aftermarket exhausts that work with cars with no drive modes but where the active exhaust valve opens according to RPMs?

I came with an inch last fall in buying a used Cayman S with a brand new Porsche factory engine and it had a Borla exhaust. It was intoxicating to listen to. Insane. Def no quiet mode.
