Not sure how prevalent it is on later VR30s, but the reason it fails is contaminates jamming the solenoid. The best thing you can do is change your oil regularly.

Typically they spec a measurement, or turns after tight, maybe 5mm. I think it depends on the rate of the springs, and maybe manufacturer.
