I guess the dealers get to take them home and park them on the street for the weekend

Curious to see what you're thinking of e upgrading the sound? I don't suspect it's a "plug and play" replacement for the sub etc.

Also, are the speakers that bad? Any chance you're able to compare to the 370z? or any other car for a bench mark?
A good question. Unfortunately I can't compare it to a 370z stereo, but both my Audi SQ7 and a Mazda CX9 I had both had pretty much identical Bose systems. They are exponentially better than the Z...

A minor issue is the high end is a little scratchy- I hear this in Bose systems pretty often. They definitely set up more for mid tone warmth. This can be tweaked a little in the EQ, but a lot of people won't much notice it anyway.

Two biggest issues are the sub and head unit.
The sub is a complete joke. I swear the first impression was is simply wasn't working. We checked... It is. Must be a tiny 4" driver. It appears (externally) to be the same as both of the other cars I mentioned, but neither of them were a problem. I don't necessarily think is the different dynamic of the space either.
The head unit is interesting. Haven't ripped it out yet, but I suspect it's really not delivering much power to the speakers. The inbuilt EQ is about as basic as they get- treble, bass, fader and balance. No mid tone adjustment.

Replacing the sub is pretty easy, can just use the existing 2 ohm channel. Replacing speakers is another story. Certainly doable, but the Bose systems don't like it (in layman's terms). Will require a lot of extra hardware to reset the signal, then build it back up. I was planning on using Focal K2s (for the colour lol) but I don't think they will be seen very clearly where they are positioned anyway. I may leave this for now, otherwise it'll cost about $2.5k with diminishing returns.

I am leaning toward a custom sub enclosure in the boot, under the floor mat. Lots of wasted space there anyway. I did some quick measurements and there is plenty of room for a good 10" or 12" sub without impeding on boot space at all.
I have access to a spare wheel sub from Kenwood (KSC-PSW10ST) which I'm going to have a play with first. These are the best compact sum/amps I've come across, and think they'll fill the car with more than enough bass. If it works out well, it will probably set me up for while and let me turn my attention to other mods :)

I'm away for couple of weeks but can do some before/after tests if there is interest.

It's kind of nice it has the factory subwoofer in it. A lot easier to tap into that feed for a LOC than using the door speakers. I didn't really expect it to perform amazing, stock head units have so much bass roll off, it's ridiculous. I have a pair of 12's in my daily driver, kept the factory touch screen head unit, and utilize an Audio Control LC2i tapped into the factory 6x9 woofers in the deck

Ok I guy I work with, that knows I've been waiting a long time for my Z just messaged me to say:

" I think you're being played. I know someone who ordered the new Nissan Z 2 weeks ago and they picked it up on Saturday

"

Then he sends me a pic from his friend of the other Newstead Proto

I tried to tell him it must have been ordered ages ago and perhaps something is being lost in the story, but he is adamant the guy knows the dealer and only purchased it because it just became available
So someone cancelled their Proto order last minute?

The only way this could happen is if it was delivered to dealer and the person pulled out of it….but seriously this is just crap
If the dealer lost its sales it should have gone to a buyer in the state that has had their order in for a long time.
This is appalling

I think if a buyer pulled out and the car was already on its way to the dealer, then fair enough.
Dealers have to sell cars

Yes and no….if the dealer down the road didn’t get a pro to for a buyer who is still waiting, the order could easily have been transferred

I was told that if the dealer had a car and customer cancelled Nissan would re-assign it to the next person in the queue.
I would take that to be the next person on the queue in the state.
The only way I see cars should be allocated out of order is if some how a large number of say blue or yellow cars got loaded for a NSW ship, easier to to allocate within the state rather than transport interstate.
