Gas prices suck so bad, I went out and bought an electric vehicle over the weekend.
I'm so close to just saying fuck it and buying a Tesla. Any car you can program to make individual whoopie cushions go off depending on where people sit gets a thumbs up from me.

wow...up to $4.69 a gal for regular central texas.

i can't remember paying more for gas then when i used to go boating years ago and having to pay $6 at the docks.

after doing that a few times i invested in gas cans and brought my own.

they say the 2 happiest days in a boat owners life is the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it. ?

Lol... what MPG did you get on the ICE one?
Not terrible. I average 22mpg in it. But when driving 1500 miles a month it adds up.

No Tesla for me. Way too many people have them. I try to be a bit different.

They're the only electrics I like the look of and are ignorantly fast. Mach E isn't ugly but it's slow as hell.

Yep. Most electric cars are simply ugly or weird looking .. and that's even before you get to the silliness of trying to charge them* and the massive expensive of buying them and then later replacing the battery pack.

* I can count the public chargers around here on my fingers alone, and this is the biggest city in the country. Plus, you really need a proper fast-charging system at home, which increase the bloated pricing even more, and may well need upgrading when you upgrade to a future newer car too.

I dont know where you are getting your info from but no, just no. You got it all wrong, except the weird and ugly part.

What is so silly about charging them? You plug it in.... Mine came with a fast charger and free install of a 240v outlet. Massive expense? Ya no. Mine was $28K and it's brand new. And guess what? It cost $12 to go 250 miles. Mind you, this is in southern CA where electricity prices are insane.

I honestly don't care about public chargers. It's called planning ahead. Charge at home and save money. If you know you are going on a long trip, charge it up before you go. With the supplied charger, it takes 8 hours to fully charge. Not charging station fast but more than fine for at home. Have it set to start charging at 9-10pm and it's full when you hop in it the next day. Lastly, replacing batteries? They have an 8 year warranty. Sell it before the warranty runs out haha.

Only downside I'm seeing here is its boring, ugly and slow.

I've seen chargers everywhere. Seems pretty much every shopping center around me has a bunch now. No need for a fast charger at home, either, just plug it in overnight. My buddy bought a Tesla about 7 months ago and he's never had issues keeping it charged, and he only charges to 80%.

Those who have solar cells and electric vehicles don't worry about $5 a gallon gas prices.

I wonder why...

When is USA!, USA! going to finally render the dinosaur dead and live intelligently?

1). Solar panels to become a commodity. I'll need almost $35-40k to supplant my 3/2 home energy requirements.

2) A NASA, DARPA, and Sheldon Cooper coalition starts a "moonshot" effort to create a cheap solid state battery that is scalable and application flexible.

3) EV's mimic ICE vehicle driving experience with a comparable, or even much less, cost factor.

4) and, when pigs fly.

Not even close. Electric cars are very different to drive than a 'normal' car. The near-instant acceleration for a start.

In terms of fuel price, yes ... but only until governments start catching up and placing extra taxes on electricity to help cover up the diminishing petrol/diesel sales.

In terms of purchase price, no. Electric cars are still heavily over-priced in comparison to a similar petrol/diesel car.

With increased demand for electronic gadgetry, there are also going to be problems (at least in the near future) getting enough electricity. Last year California asked electric car owners to not charge their vehicles during certain hours due to over-demand on the electricity grid (APNews.com), and many other places around the world have been complaining for years about not having enough at times ... yet government and greenies still blindly try to push people into electric cars.
