My Dad was in his 40's back in the 1980/90's. Contrary to what many of you think, the 80's weren't "20 years ago...). He was doing okay at the time, but a divorce and some other things put a bit of stress on his finances, which isn't the point of this thread really, but I thought how cool would it have been, if he had bought a C4 ZR1, or a VR4, or a 300ZX TT and just kept it as a second car? He would be cruising around in that today, super cool!
So I got to thinking, why not do this with a RZ34 Nismo manual?
Then reality hit and I see it uses a "screen" for a dash cluster, it has a lot of other CAN BUS systems in play, and I wonder...is the RZ34 something you could even pretend to own for 20-30 years, or is it just disposable, unlike a 1980's Porsche, etc and doomed by our throw-away coulter and the desire to have a bunch of whiz-bang stuff we discard every buying cycle?
I know 350Z's are still running strong and in great shape, so it's not the engines or diffs or boxes, but my concern is the CAN BUS systems, the dash "screen", stuff that will deadline a modern car. Can this stuff be worked with/kept alive/does the Nissan architecture, electronically, allow for this? Or is the RZ34 something you need to just enjoy on lease and go buy that Classic 280 and forget about owning the modern Z for long?
I am especially interested in the opinions of people who have actually torn into this or similar cars to that level.
