My results from yesterday:

1772718485651-38.webp

power mod list
  • 93-octane E10 pump gas
  • K&N intakes
  • Mishimoto heat exchanger
  • Mishimoto intercoolers
  • Spool 3" resonated lower downpipes (ceramic coated)
  • AWE Touring catback exhaust
  • Redline WaterWetter in both cooling systems

Peaks at about 19-20psi then tapers down from there to prevent turbo overspeed. Per RaceBox, they said my car seems fairly strong and put down ~10whp more than they expected on the stock tune, to which I credit the low mileage engine (<3k miles) and a good list of complimentary bolt-ons.

As info, I'm running Exxon fuel and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 oil (with a Dorman aluminum oil pan). Redline MT-85 transmission fluid with Redline 75W-90 GL-5 in the rear LSD diff.

Nice! So did you have the stock tune file in this graph (darker color), then after you mods, run again and this graph show comparison? Any tune with this? I see you mentioned Racebox.

Yes, sorry for the lack of details!

This comparison is stock tune vs. RaceBox custom tune; identical mod list for both.

the tuning alone showed gains of:
+61whp
+90wtq

@KrackaC8 am I correct by looking at your graphs above, i.e. both with the mods, if purely stock (w/o mods) we can expect about 25 hp gains and 20 lb torque?

That dyno comparison is back-to-back stock tune (red) vs. custom dyno tuned (blue). The mods are identical for both pulls.

+61whp
+90wtq

Those gains are from the tuning alone. Same afternoon, same fuel, same dyno operator, never unstrapped, etc.

I am doing recon on the exhaust setup i want. Very close on the AWE Touring or Borla S-Type. Same for LDP I have considered....Spool or B6A resonated.

How do you like the sound of your set up?

Any crackling when letting off the gas?

How's the turbo noise?

Any CEL prior to the tune?

Sounds good, deep, not ricey...wouldn't want any louder. I did have the dealership disable ASE. I would possibly consider B6A resonated downpipes if I were redoing the setup since they have larger resonators than Spool (but Spools are much cheaper). No CEL. No cracking or "burbs & pops" at all; zero interest in that nonsense. I much prefer a smooth tone.

Turbo noises: plenty of that, and the bypass valves, from the K&N intakes!

Perfect, all sounds good! We are in the same boat, want some growl (as much as VR30's can do) without the rice. And I can't stand all those popping noises.

I put on B6A intakes and am in love with the sound she makes now, don't want to drown that out.

I also had the dealer disable ASE and ANC. Don't want anything fake here.

B6A has a new version of their resonated LDP that is now 3.0" rather than the previous 2.5" design. With that said, I would not do the Borla which is 2.5" with a 3.0" downpipe. My suggestion would be to go with either the 3.0" AWE, or find the previous 2.5" LDP to pair with the Borla. My personal opinion, obviously completely subjective, but I wasn't wild about Borla's sound on the Z (nothing against Borla though, I had their system on my C8 and currently also have Magnaflow on my wife's Wrangler - Magnaflow's Z system is intriguing as well).

Well shit, I did not put those two together. So B6A going bigger, I read about that. Wasn’t that to fix the seals, leakage and other bugs? I do like the AWE, always liked Borla, but that was on V8s. Hence split on the 2. From my understanding they are pretty similar in sound too.

Would you happen to have any sound clips of your set up?

B6A absolutely improved their offering with this latest revision. I suspect their sales felt pressure from Spool's release.

I spent $5k on my Borla setup.
I spent $1,200 on my AWE setup.

I'd love to sit here and justify to you why the Borla is better and worth the money...

(buy the AWE - today is the last day of their 15% off sale, as info)

P.S. I also HATE how far the Borla exhaust tips stick out on the Z.

Cool. You ever do the AWE track to see the comparison, or straight touring?

Track vs. Touring is just going to be a sound/volume difference.
