I apologize if it's been posted, I tried to search but didn't see anything that matched my question.

I'm going to need to get winter tires for my Z, I live in northern Illinois, it will be snowy in the winter. Done.

My question is as follows:
1) Should I just buy winter tires and get them mounted / swapped for summer vs winter time or buy a spare set of rims.
I used to drive a Civic and had a set of spare rims, but those things were cheap to buy...I have a feeling it will not be the case for this car.

1a) If I get a spare set of rims for the winter, should I make the set have thinner tires? I was under the impression that wider tires were worse in the snow.

This is my first time owning a car this nice with tires like this. Especially a car with the rears being a different size than the front. I am a newb, please be gentle :D

I prefer having separate winter rims, keeps the summer ones out of the bad weather. Plus you don't have to continuously pay for dismounting, mounting snows, and balancing.

Yes, thinner tires are better in the winter, but I can't way what width to get, I'm sure someone else can chime in.

I'm planning on getting 18" wheels for winter, not sure on exact specs yet, if anyone can provide guidance.

Wheels from a 370Z should fit, base model wheels with your choice of winter tire.

You can try 10 or 20 narrower on the width, for example if the wheels had 255/45, you could try 245/50 if the aspect ratio works out.

Personally I run DWS06+ tires all year on my AWD Q60. It's not a handling machine, so I don't mind the compromise, but my friend says he runs the same tire on his RWD G37 coupe and says they're surprisingly good all year.

Discount Tire website has reviews, and they even show the kind of car they are on.
Look for reviews from 370Z and G37 RWD owners.

My friend has a G35 coupe he's been daily driving for 10 years now, I turned him on to the original DWS, he loved them, he swears by them (Seattle area, rain and some snow) and only uses DWS now, he bought the DWS06 and the DWS06+ over the years.

My Q60 is AWD, so my car has a bad weather advantage anyway, but it's unstoppable with the DWS06+ tires.

What size rims are you putting them on? I'm likely a city or two away from you (i.e., I also need winters tires), and am trying to find what size rims will clear the brakes.

Thanks!

Has anyone actually tried to fit 18" wheels on the Performance trim? The Sports model comes with 18" wheels, but I'm not sure if the larger rotor and caliber on the Performance will clear the 18" rims. Thinking about going a size down for the winter set.

Im in NY and just decided to go with Pilot Sport 4 All Season. Wont be great in heavy snow but id never drive my Z in that anyways. Currently running 19x9.5 +22 and 19x10.5 +22 on 265x35 front and 285x35 rear.

Chris Forsberg had downsize to 18x9.5+15.

I'm thinking of going with 18x9+30.

Oh, that's cool. There really isn't much clearance in the front between the caliper and the rim's inner wall, so I was worried.

18x9 would be ideal, but I could only find either 18x8.5 or 18x9.5
