My LSD came in from Japan much sooner than I expected. Got hit with taxes on delivery. Thought I was getting off without taxes only to see UPS man turn into tax man. Anyways, now I'm looking at either the Z1 or CZP diff covers. They both have ports, extra fluid capacity, fins, etc.

Does anyone have experience with either?

Edit: I couldn't find the CZP one so I purchased the Z1. I find CZP's website difficult to use

The Z1 is nice. fit nicely onto my pumpkin.

What are you putting the LSD in to ? Your stock open diff pumpkin?

I am changing out the open diff to the Nismo GT Pro 1.5 way LSD. Nissan USA confirmed it fits in my car so I wanted to try it out. Took a while to get someone knowledge from z1 to also confirm that their cover fits over the imported LSD. I can get part number in a few minutes if you're curious. Someone else here actually has done the same thing. I thought I was being slick and the first one to do it but they did it already lol.

Surprisingly importing the better LSD from Japan was cheaper than any option from Nissan USA, any aftermarket option, and also about $700 cheaper than buying it from Z1 or CZP (the LSD is hidden within their sites pretty good)

This probably goes without saying; Just get a good shop to install it and set the gear mesh/lash correctly. Let us all know how much labor runs you.

Do you need to get the shorter axle stubs to install yours?

Yep I did they were included in the kit from Nismo directly. The only thing not included was the oil 😫 but that's okay. I was thinking of calling the Nissan and Infiniti dealerships around here. I know a service manager or shop manager (I forget) of my local Infiniti dealership. Met him at road Atlanta and he was one of my instructors. He's offered to help build my car and says it's not the first race car they built/maintain, so fingers crossed. With two hours of labor it's still cheaper than the comparable Nissan USA part or aftermarket parts, but after that it gets expensive. No idea how much labor is involved. Most of the instructions are in Japanese 😂

Heck yeah! Looks great 🙌🙌

I finally got around to a shop about installing the Nismo GT Pro 1.5 way LSD I imported and they asked if I wanted to change gearing? I had no idea what they were talking about and they explained I could change gear ratios to be faster off the line or to achieve higher top end. Said I had no clue and would research a bit and he said np and if I would do it this would be the ideal time to do it.

Any thoughts on gear ratio changing?

If I was doing track stuff, having two different rear ends could be advantageous. You could have steeper gears for a road course with less straightaways, and lower rear end gearing for one with long straightaways that you need that top speed.

IIRC, someone here said, "For the love of God, Mug, DO NOT PUT a LSD out of an AT in your MT car!"

Valid. It's also a very expensive and labor intensive hobby so I think I'm just gonna steer away from that unless maybe I feel the need for it with higher HP later on. Thanks!

I have this exact setup with the Z1 cover, it's all good. I also took the diff to a specialty shop for the install and setup and they said it actually didn't require any adjustment at all, it was a straight drop in to the open diff pumpkin.

That's good news! How do you like it? I just dropped by a rear end shop that specializes on this type of work. They said most people these days bring him Wavetrac LSDs (BMW boys specifically he mentioned). He was surprised it was a clutch-type LSD and after looking at the parts and under the car while it was on the lift he said it would likely take about 4-4.5 hours of labor. His reviews are all solid and was recommended to me. Was that rate about what you paid?

Lastly, did your kit come with the Nismo Comp fluid? The one I imported from Japan didn't have any fluid but I know some kits do have the fluid

It's been good to me! Being an aftermarket clutch type it can be a little noisy in parking lots/tight turns at low speeds, but I was expecting that. It's more noisy when cold, once warmed up it's pretty well mannered.

Mine did come with Nismo fluid. I also got mine straight from Japan (through Nengun.) I used some generic fluid for break in and then switched to the Nismo fluid. I did a break in with figure 8s for 20+ minutes rather than whatever the Nismo break in procedure was supposed to be, a few hundred miles of light street driving, I think.

I paid $300 to the diff shop for the install, they had quoted me more for setup but they were honest about it not needing any backlash or side bearing adjustments once it was in, so they cut their rate some.

Ah cool, I almost used Nengun, but went with Black Hawk Japan instead. Bought some Redline diff fluid for the break in and maybe go nismo comp or motul for everyday use eventually. good idea on the figure 8's. I'd rather do that than deal with traffic and driving slowly for a couple hundred miles.

$300. Wow, what a steal. That's awesome. Hope mine doesn't need any backlash or anything either. That would be incredible lol

I guess I should mention that I pulled/reinstalled the pumpkin myself, the labor I was charged was strictly for swapping the guts of the differential.

Ah, yeah, that helps validate the 4 hours. I was thinking of just driving over there with half my exhaust off to "help" aka force myself to finally put on my cat back immediately after
