it is crazy what certain cars are going for now.
some have almost doubled in price. in a lot of cases its a better deal to buy new!
what are you seeing in your area?
how about you guys outside the usa, is it the same?

discuss!

I concur in Australia it’s the same.
When I sold my Peugeot for 30k I was pretty happy (8 years old and would only get 15 on trade in)

Then when I went to buy a cheap run around to carry me until the Z arrives ( and pass down to my youngest ) I was shocked.
We paid 7k for a ten year old Hyundai i20…and that was a steal compared to most. Any that we went to look at at 5k were in terrible shape, both in terms of mileage and appearance. Most needed a trip to the panel beaters
Cars that would have sold for 2k a year or two ago

weird times for sure. are you guys having a shortage in new vehicles too?
thats a lot of the problem here....oh and the chip shortage.
in turn you got more for your peugeot, then say you would have a year or two ago?
or say pre-pandemic prices?

I picked up a cold-call yesterday from local dealer and spoke with a new car salesman asking to buy my used cars. So this Houston "FWD car" dealership hedged that they won't get adequate inventory until 2022Q4.

The conversation went on for over 10min, and the last part he said they're willing to buy used cars for parts (e.g. sell to auction), bc some cars has high value in parts.

Something is really weird going on in the economy.

I know I can sell my Evo for WAY more than I should be able to, especially if I sold it to a Canadian.

Yeah for sure, I think I got more for my car than I would have pre pandemic.
I’m not sure about new cars since I only am looking at one ? but I believe there is ….and it’s being made worse as all our warf workers are on strike making shipments coming in few.

I think there are a whole heap of issues contributing. Chips, covid ( meaning less man power to produce) delivery delays due to strikes, and weirdly in Aus more money. With people not being able to holiday, they have been buying new cars and caravans instead!

I did an online evaluation on CarMax for my base 370z. I bought my 2014 Z used for around $23K in 2018. CarMax estimated my car's current value to be between $20K -$23K or basically what I paid for it 3.5 years ago.

I bought my Ram 1500 when the pandemic first started and got almost $20,000 off in incentives because no one was buying cars. I could sell it for more than I bought it for now. Crazy.

Seriously, everyone should take a look on their local Offerup and Craigslist. People are asking retardedly high prices for their junk cars with well over 200k miles. o_O

the toyota dealer offered to buy my wife's 2019 trd sport tacoma for $2000 more than what i paid for it new.

she doesn't want to get rid of it because it's her favorite. it's her 3rd third gen. it's a good deal, so it looks like i'm building her another truck just like it but with 4wd.

I should see what I could sell my Wrangler for. I know I got a deal when I bought it so I might make out like a bandit.

Why not …put it on carsales ( or the equivalent in the US) at a price you’d never think you would get and see what happens. Don’t have to sell it, unless you get what you want
