I’ve owned my z for around 9 months and plan to get the AWE touring edition catback installed in a few months. I am wanting to pair it with either the AMS lower downpipes or the B6A lowers to help improve the sound. Is a tune needed for a lower downpipe if I’m just chasing a better sound? Are there any suggestions on what ldp will pair best with the AWE catback?

Definitely need to get it tuned. It always causes overboost and premature wear on the turbos and possibly failure. Overboosting can also cause other issues.

LDP's definetly need tune as do 3" intakes and or 3" exhaust. UDP's curiously do not. Tuners such as Sonictuned will say and I believe that most of air restriction is in LDP's. I have installed 3" intakes and engine light on and off the start car searches for correct AFM - thinks its running lean - MAF can't handle extra air. For sound I would recommend something like RAE or B6 axle backs or 2.5" cat back - not 3". Check out Sonictuned web site a wealth of information and GoRacebox also. Good luck.

I remember just changing my intakes and I got a CEL after driving a few miles. Definitely will need to get a tune for an LDP.

I swap between the AWE Touring and Track versions, paired with AMS race ldp and it sounds amazing. Be warned the track version is very loud with ldps.

I had no CELs after installing my intakes, exhaust, and ldps, but would definitely recommend tuning. I tried to get mine done as soon as possible to avoid any issues.

Hello,
Your Z may not run right on the stock tune since lower downpipes and a catback open up the exhaust quite a lot. It will likely overshoot the boost target and you may run into throttle closures. Getting it tuned will ensure everything is running right on target and will be optimized for the mods on the car. And as for suggestions between the AMS and B6 lowers, they would sound pretty much the same given the same diameter.
