I'm planning to do something custom DIY for the replacement of the Bose 8 system. I'm starting with the subwoofer.

I thought I would remove it and give it a gander. I took the top off and found 2 beefy (looking) cones. Reminds me of Bose's Acoustimass boxes, but smaller. Maybe I could use these in their own enclosure or something?...

The connector is interesting. I'm working on reverse-engineering it instead of cutting it and hardwiring. I'd rather keep everything I can stock. Mostly for ease.

I've seen another thread mentioning a replacement for the spare tire woofer.

A JBL BassPro Hub. Interesting that there is an aftermarket for this. I should have known, knowing that there is for shallow depth subs for pickup trucks (and etc hehe. Ask me.)

Reverse-engineering the connector.

This is the subwoofer side of the connector. The wire pattern is in an H-pattern (top to bottom) on each side.

I replaced all of the components (non Bose system) and upgraded to Kenwood / JL Audio. JL 6.5in components in doors and 1in dome tweeters in the A-pillar mirror trim (my car had the Bose two way tweeters in dash, so I kept them wired in series with the doors) 5.75in midrange in the rear panels. Ken wood makes an Exelon 5 channel amp that fits in the manual pocket behind the passenger seat, just have to drill access in rear for wiring. I also used 2 JL 10” shallow subs in Skar Audio shallow boxes. They fit right behind the rear sway bar and don’t impede rear view. I’ll probably do something custom with an enclosure in the spare well later just to get a few inches of cargo space back and keep everything stealth.

Ok! So what, and where are you putting the head unit? 😊

I kept the original head unit and used a four channel line converter to send audio signal to amp. This is mounted behind the touchscreen above the AC controls

@qellman32

You mention that you used "5.75in midrange in the rear panels. " Are you talking about the rear speakers that are against the exterior directly behind the seats?

Other speaker threads have stated those speakers are 4.5". Yes, those discussions are about sport models. However, I'm willing to bet that the holes are the same size on sports and performance models.

Were the 5.75" speakers a bolt-in, or did you have to cut metal to make it work?
