If you have slim plates that do not cover the entire plate bracket and want a more hidden look. This is for you.
This is what I did after taking notes from a few others
OEM look
1. Start by removing OEM bracket. If this needs explaining, stop here, proceed no further.
Remove number plate screws and number plate , then remove 2 screws in the large circle holes.
There are some weak locating clips in the square holes centre top also
2. Hack the OEM bracket to the smaller size
a) use the vertical sides of the large rectangular holes as a guide for the vertical cuts
b) use the bottom of the large round holes as a guide for the horizontal cut
note: you need to keep the large holes intact as this is the mounting point used
3. After you've finished cutting it will look like this
4. Reattach the bracket
5. You can attach your plate directly to the bracket but the bracket will show at the top and not be entirely hidden, same as OEM. And the nasty corners where the bracket is cut will show.
For a MUCH better look pick up backing plate from an auto parts store
This one was AU$15
6. Attach backing plate to bracket using OEM plate holes on the bracket
Make sure the backing plate covers the bracket at the top
7. Attach plate to backing plate
8. Enjoy
