Okay, so i'm about 10 days away from getting the car wrapped, and I mean the WHOLE car, all the black bits on the roof included (not wrapping the Katana as yet). Going with Avery Denison, Gloss Metallic Dark Blue

I've always, ALWAYS wanted to ditch the twin color job (right now it's the Seiran Blue with the Black roof) and I have always disliked the look... but try as I might, I can't find any guides as to whether the black piece around the rear window/trunk is vinyl or not, I cannot find anyone who's removed it and I cannot find anyone that's wrapped the entire car.

Does anyone have anything they can point me towards to help out with here? Right now I don't know if it's safe to or even CAN be removed, and I don't want to shell out thousands for a really good quality wrap only to find I can't do anything about/with the roof, which is 95% of the reason i'm doing it.

so that raised lip on the trunk/boot where the blue and black meet, that's a separate piece of plastic and not a vinyl?

I read somewhere that where they meet is hand painted. If you see imperfections along that line, that is why. It’s all paint though, and there are no separate pieces. Just another layer of paint for the black with primer underneath. Is blue raised or is the black raised?

I noticed that, I didn’t like that about the two tone cars. Idk why they couldn’t match them with a good job. It’s like they painted the whole car blue and then painted black over it.

it seems far too thick to be an extra coat of paint, I know there's been some quality issues on Nissan's recently but that's astonishing, it genuinely feels thick enough to be a vinyl sticker.

If that's the case i may have to look into securing another boot lid.

What it truly is must be a black vinyl wrap with clear over it. Whether the black is painted over the wrap after placement or not I am not sure. But there’s definitely clear coat connecting them. Sealing it

Curious to see how the wrap will work around the rear glass. Odd to me there’s no bezel or rubber around it. It’s almost like they forgot about that.

It is paint to the best of my knowledge, I had my whole roof covered in PPF all the way down the rear hatch to the spoiler. I took it to the best shops in my area and they all agreed it was painted and safe to wrap in PPF. That said, there is a slight "ledge" where the black is higher than the white (in my case), so they did two separate pieces with PPF, one on the black, one on the white. With traditional vinyl, you're going to end up seeing a somewhat subtle outline where the paint underneath changes from black to blue (in your case), but I think aside from that there shouldn't be any issue.

"BeDistinct" and "Eastside Wraps" are two youtube channels that have wrapped two-toned Z's, you could reach out to them for their input/feedback!

I’ve also had my Nismo (stealth/black two tone) wrapped. I’ll have to take a closer look but I want to say mine is one solid piece of PPF on the rear hatch. If it’s two pieces, I can’t see any visible seam. Either case, the installer if worth the money you’re paying should be able to nail that transition.

I've gone through a couple of other threads and the consensus seems to be that it's paint, including one guy who actually used to spray cars for a living who's positive it is.

The issue I have is I don't want that transition, that lip, at all. What I'm going for is a unique color no one else has done, in full coverage (aside from the Katana). The lip is (unfortunately) very distinct, and I don't think I could accept it. I'm looking at plans B, C and D now:

Plan B - stick with the two tone and just wrap the blue (very much last choice)
Plan C - Buy a single tone boot/trunk lid to avoid the the lip all together, hopefully an unblemished (or atleast not dented) 2nd hand one. Preferable.
Plan D - Scrap the idea of the wrap and repaint the entire car at likely double the price. Distant 2nd.

If there's any other suggestions though, I'd welcome them

looks like Plan C would add around $1800 or so to the project cost for what I'm seeing for used hatches, at least via eBay...check locally to avoid shipping costs, which hopefully would save you at least $400.

Maybe a long shot, but you could possibly try to sand or wet sand the lip where the two colors meet until it levels out if you plan to keep it wrapped long-term. Worst case scenario there, you may need to repaint the hatch down the road if/when you remove the wrap?

I'll have to look into that, other than buying a new boot it's basically the only other viable option.

Seibon makes a CF rear hatch, ~$1,450, but I imagine swapping everything over would be a ROYAL pain.

Familiar with the 350, not the 370, but so glad Nissan did away with the rear wiper.
