I hate driving into El Paso, Texas for any reason, but I have done for better tint, UV windsheild and ceramic coat. The Nissan Nav sucked, had me go in loops to get to the destination the first time. I used Google maps and the Nissan Nav the second trip to the same place. Google was right on in the way I think ... the Nav sucked (even after telling it to re-evaluate the route) and wanted me to make u-turns several times. Has anyone else experienced this and does the Nissan Nav learn over time?

I use CarPlay and Waze. It definitely learns (and is crowd sourced - so if it says there’s an accident/speed trap/traffic jam, there will almost always be one). I give it a 9/10. I have a few friends that have been Wazers for >10yrs. They can modify maps if roads change or new roads open and are like ‘superusers’. Waze has saved me from sitting in traffic for hours more than one occasion by rerouting me in time.

No - I don’t trust the Nissan Nav yet. It also took me in circles once, 3-sides around when there was a fairly direct route. U-Turns too. No thanks!

Do you have Nissan Connect & have “Premium Traffic” Enabled in settings? In my experience you need to get that on free trial or pay for it for the Nav to be good at rerouting or traffic alerts. I just recently (last 100mi or so) switched it on, so may run it side-by-side with Waze or Google Maps and see if it’s ’smarter’.

But it would suck if you have to pay for a Nissan Subscription to get the Nissan Nav do what any other map program does by default. I think that may be the case. You may need a current connection to the ‘host system’ for it to act more intelligently. I’ll post back if I find that set-up to be any better.

Generally speaking Apple, Google, Waze or most other maps are better than OEM navigation. I like to have it for a back up incase I loose phone connectivity which has happen to me a few times in remote parts of Texas and Oklahoma. I don’t think our maps learn, but I could be wrong would check manual or YouTube. As far as El Paso goes I was stationed at Bliss twice and really loved it there!

Oem Nav is a good backup, but I wouldn't rely on it by any means as a primary source. Carplay/AA is the primary option here.

I think the OEM nav system is fine and works good for what I need it to do. When I go on longer trips I pop on location and use Apple Car Play which is definitely better in my opinion. I am a power user with my phone and normally leave location and all that other stuff off to save battery so I don't use Car Play all the time.

Agreed. My long post was to try and convey my negative experience with Onboard Nav. And to plug Waze, which won’t usually let me down. My Favs are (in order):
1. Waze
2. Google Maps
3. Whatever the Apple Defaults Map is called
4. OEM Onboard Nav

Ft. Bliss was my last duty station, went back to VA for a year, then to Southern NM. I just hate bigger cities in general. The people are nice in EP, but the roads are always torn up or under construction. Nav systems just don't really keep up. I use Google Maps as a backup.

I'll have to check on the "Premium Traffic", I have Nissan Connect for 5 years with purchasing of the car.

I have my data sharing off on my car, so it could be the reason why I didn't see live traffic data the few times I have messed with the oem nav. I'll look more into it at some point I'm sure for curiosities sake, but in terms of what I use reliably, it's hard to beat android auto/carplay. That's one of the contributing reasons I traded my Supra for the Z.

I found and enabled the setting earlier today, I will report my findings as well. Thank you for suggesting this!

Initial thoughts, it is too "noisy", not as bad as Waze, but I find it irritating compared to Google Maps. I don't need to know 7 miles out of my next exit. I'll assume it is learning and keep trying to see if it improves at all.

Waze has options to turn off all the extra notifications, except essential alerts. I guess I’m a ‘power user’ and have it tweaked for my liking after having used it so long. It also warns pretty accurately about speed traps. Good Luck getting the OEM Nav to do anything except warn you that you’re exceeding speed limits!
Update: Yesterday OEM Nav wanted to take me out of a shopping mall parking lot. Then back on to the main drag and then a complicated way back in the lot just to get me to an outlet 1/2 mile away in the same lot! Waze at least knows there’s a way to get directly there internally, without ever leaving the lot. So 90% of the time, I’ll stick to Waze for the above reasons. The AI does better at learning faster routes over time and knows what previous users have done in similar circumstances. OEM is like traditional car NAV, and based on fairly old tech. As others have said, even Google Maps is better than OEM. That’s also my experience.

It was that way when I was there too and if it rained the drainage was non existent. That being said me and my family had a great time there as you know if you want authentic Mexican food that is the place! Sadly the city is even bigger including Bliss went to a friends retirement a few years ago and was shocked how much it has changed.

I honestly hate waze, I don't want to take the time to try and tweak an app when I drive. Google maps works well enough for me and my Uniden R3 works miles out from what waze can do. The OEM ... I keep letting it try, just to see if it learns.
