I didnt like how the stock manual axleback sounded like a whisper for a sports car. Pulled the trigger and picked up a used Auto axleback

Sound clip speaks louder than words

PS. Im not a Youtuber 😉

Welp... even here our auto models get the fat muffler and the hotdog resonators. It made 0 sound, no literally 0 sound from the factory. Now with the awe touring car sounds waayyy better, but imma get the track conversion to open up the top end sound cause from 3-4k its loudest but anything above and it sounds like air.

Hi All,
I am considering this mod for my Z. AFAIK AUS don't get this part on local (RHD) auto Zs, all are the large rear muffler. It would appear the same rear muffler was used on the Infiniti Q60s, although it is a different part number. I can get one of these at about half the price of one sourced from the US.

The Infiniti part # is 20100-5CF0D, the Nissan Z part# 20100-6HZ5B.

Can anyone confirm it's the same part?

Edit: The more I look into this it seems the Infiniti part is the large muffler version.

Thats crazy. And I thought America, especially California was strict on noise db

Reason I say this, here is an article of the owner of a Elantra N that was pulled over for their stock exhaust and the whole story behind it

There are areas that are strict however there is a legal db level. All production cars meet this level and it is not the sound of a vacuum cleaner like our cars 🤣. There was a Dodge Neon RT Turbo back in the day that had a resonator and no muffler from the factory. Sounded pretty mean for a factory car and it met California law. Why Nissan made the auto car louder than the manual car is beyond me. The only thing I can think of is the auto rev matching can be pretty aggressive ? Or maybe weight saving because the auto is heavier than the manual car? Who knows….

If someone has an Auto take off in the central California area they want to sell, hit me up and I will take it off your hands!

If the M/T had a resonator on the mid pipe and the A/T axleback. Did it still exceed the db level for EPA? 🤔

Is there a difference with the performance auto exhaust and the Z Nismo exhaust?

So I ended up doing this muffler swap. The shop looked at me sideways for swapping a stock muffler for another stock muffler. But they were amazed at the difference in sound afterwards. I am truly happy with this minor modification as it still keeps my car “stock.” Thank you to the OP.
