I have to admit, NA sounds so much better. Drove in tandem with a 3.7L 370 yesterday. Turbocharged engines don't sound as good. Now the Porsche 991.2 and S58(M series), and B58 sound good as turbo cars.
I'm particularly fond of the sounds coming out the ass end of an M177.

How many miles do you have? I’m only at about 1015. I noticed the noise when I first test drove my Z. I was so excited I didn’t really think twice about it. The next morning I started it up in the garage and the noise was there. I just assumed it was normal. I just recently started zoning in on it and wondering what it could be.
I’ve got 6000k’s just over 3700 miles, l bought it with 1300k’s on it. l have always wondered if it had been run in properly by the previous owner. I know what you mean about zoning in on noises, instead of enjoying the hell out of it when l drive I’m constantly listening for the noise.

Wow that’s interesting, l also get a strange metallic random tinkling noice from the right side of the engine on warm up like a coin is rattling around under the cam cover ( only noticeable with the hood up) goes away when hot.

check this video out on you tube, if you have the sound up you can hear a similar dull knock.

what your experiencing is totally normal, the VR in daily driving sounds like a sewing machine etc. my car has 700 miles and sounds the same if I am not in boost. When you are on the boost it’s a different story, which is what makes this car so fun.
Nah. It's still quiet on boost. I call mine a sewing machine, too, with stock exhaust. The Nismo track exhaust sounds way better, but I don't like its build quality.

Part of the problem is we hear everything. Every little sound stands out...

or does this motor sound like a sewing machine? I mean, completely underwhelming exhaust aside (6mt here), the engine just sounds like a combination of ticking, clicking, and whirring.
i did the muffler delete and got me where i needed to be exhuast wise. i get what you are saying engine wise - it’s buttoned up pretty good stock. i suppose there is an opportunity for improvement with an open air filter hot air intake. But otherwise fuel injection is the blame. All you hear is the injectors open/close clicking and the timing chains spinning 4 cams.

Nothing like the sound of an old school big block when the 4 barrel carb kicks in.

Thanks, I’m no stranger to V8’s and the legendary Quadrajet, the good old days when if you heard an unusual noise you knew what was causing it.
