I'm at the Infiniti dealership getting my Q60 serviced right now, and there's a Q50 on the lift with its engine removed. Turbos pulled off. Service rep says it's common issue on this engine. And, as we already know, an engine-out affair.

Gonna start waffling about the new Z.

I heard the Q50 turbo charge system do not have any BOV/diverter valve or way to vent the excess pressure when you let off the gas. I wonder if it has worn bearing from the STUTUTUTUTU flutter sound.

Turbocharger failures.

I asked the Service Agent if it's happening under warranty, or if people are out of pocket.

He said almost all are under warranty, but he also reminded me that Infiniti warranty is longer than Nissan (I brought up the new Z).

Hard to say if the issue is resolved, obviously newer cars aren't old enough to know.

He said they get several a month. Remember, these are not very common vehicles!

It was an issue like 2017 and earlier. Think of the Z as having the 3rd and latest edition. I trust Nissan has fixed the issues. They know people are gonna tune the hell out of these.

Interesting. If Nissan is aware of this issue (and they certainly must be), I'm confident they'll address it before putting the Z into production. They won't want either the expensive warranty claims or the damage to their reputation.

Would hope they got it right by now. Do they know what the actual issue is?

Must’ve been an “older” model. 2019 onwards they have fixed the turbo issues.

Did they add a diverter/recirculation or blow-off valve?
Not sure to be honest. Someone In my Q50 forums stated that the 2019 model and up have a new model number for the turbos as we worked for Infiniti. Said they updated them. That’s the extent i know of.
