I'm looking at the Rays Nismo 57CR wheels for my Z. Z1 recommends 19x9.5 +25 in the front and a 19x10.5 +12 in the rear but I don't know what size tire to get so there's no stretching and no rubbing on the fenders. I tried to use this site willtheyfit.com but I can't find the Performance wheel OE spec to input accurate values.

Yeah, will fit with plenty of room to spare. That's a fairly mild setup. Go with a 285/35/19 on a 10.5 rear.

I'm thinking 265/40/19 front and 285/35/19 rear.

If you want to do a 265 front you will have to go with a 265/35/19. The 40 will be too tall at 27.5" tall. Dropping to a 35 will also open up a lot more tire choices and also be a lot lighter weight tire.

With the shorter 35's will that also introduce a larger tire<>fender gap?

Correct. Your choice, remember the rear is 27" tall and will get shorter as it wears, it will look odd to have the front tire be larger than the rear. Approximate measurements.

255/40/19 = 27" tall, same height, same gap.
265/40/19 = 27.5" tall, 1/4" increase in ride height, 1/4" decrease in fender gap.
265/35/19 = 26.5" tall, 1/4" decrease in ride height, 1/4 increase in fender gap.

Your setup will have the front wheel almost a half inch taller than the rear. That would look odd.

It would I agree. That how it is stock and I can see it. If I do 40 in the rear would that cause problems like rubbing? My ride height is currently 4.5" from wheel rim to fender.

A 285/40/19 will be 28" tall, thats way too tall. Try not to go above 27" for this car.

The first number in a tire size is the width in mm, the second number is the height as a percentage of the first number. So as you go wider the tire will get taller if you keep the second number the same. A 245/40/19 will be 26" tall vs a 285/40/19 will be 28" tall even thou they are both 40 series.
