My dealer mentioned there was rumours of a manual recall when I picked it up, but was adamant there was nothing official advising this, no stop sale, and that all of the rumours seemed to originate from one online image/post.

Yeah if there was a real issue, manuals would've been recalled by now.
Unless they're doing something to all the manuals already built but not yet shipped.
And are just going to see what happens for those already in the wild.

They mentioned there WAS the auto recall - took Nissan a while to work out the fix, and that it was a simple software issue. This was the reason their dealership demo was delayed. Even though it's only a couple of hour to fix the issue, Nissan wanted to send the cars that hadn't shipped back to the factory to do the fix.
Apparently only certain service staff are qualified to work on these yet? Same as the GTR's?(mentioned 'Nissan Master Mechanic', but not sure if that was the service guy talking up his role!).

The autos are now being delivered ahead of the manuals. You only need to look on Facebook to see this ….it’s obvious there is an issue. However it doesn’t appear to be all cars effected and they are taking precautions on the ones not shipped to make sure there are no issues in them. Even one of the guys in the forum is starting to have issues with second gear …I truly hope you dint have issues

As to @jezzza stating that a Nissan dealer said they never gave a date of delivery so technically it’s not delayed.
“MID 2022” is pretty clear mid meaning middle meaning the months of June July August September ….it’s delayed alright and them trying to deny it is not winning any brownie points

I don’t know why I bother telling you guys anything, risked getting my dealer in trouble only for you to dismiss it.

There are 0 cars on boats ATM it is now Mid October…let that sink in.

Manual Protos are not being still sold…people who have orders in for them have now been told Feb as per this exact thread
Manual Protos sold would be about 10 in the country, not with a recall and alerting everyone to an issue. If the few owners of a manual have an issue they will be looked after by their dealers

Believe what you want …I’m over it…why would you think a dealer would sit down and write a fake memo to read to a customer?

I understand he picked up his Manual Proto AFTER this.
And the other Manual Proto at the same dealer was delivered AFTER this.
This to me, constitutes "Manual Protos still being sold"


We've ALL been fed so much horseshit from dealers and Nissan AU we're just sceptical of everything that comes out. Something always gets lost in passing the info along. Wording and semantics change.

Weighing in with my thoughts.

1. No issues with mine (unless the subwoofer counts!) I also know two other manual proto owners in AU now, and no one having 2nd gear issues. I know that is a small sample size, but mentions of 'a' forum member with an issue?
Possible it was simply bad luck for them, and Nissan are holding off until they investigate the extent of the issue?
Also possible these users didn't observe the break in period for their engine? I am, but I know a lot of others didn't because they wanted to be the first to do all sorts of crazy shit to their cars straight after leaving dealership.

2. That memo is Nissan US. I confirmed at the time, and confirmed again this morning - there is no such memo from Nissan Australia.
I specifically asked about this memo when I collected, which was the same day that memo hit the internet. The other one at my dealer was collected about 3 days later.

3. I heard of a manual proto being delivered in Noosa this week...

Just another heads up - I'm trying to get out and about to some car club meet ups etc to give people a chance to look this thing over.
Done a couple of the Cars-And-Coffee meets now (early mornings always work better for me than nights).

If anyone knows of one they think I should go to in or around SEQ - slide into my DM's and let me know. I know a lot of people are keen to see it, hear it, touch it etc. Happy to share the love, and my experience to date.

I pretty much spelled it out…but here goes, although you won’t believe me anyway , seem to like living in your deluded cocoons.

To be honest I’m over the car and I’m over the forum.
Why people would think I’m making crap up is totally beyond me, especially as I’m not the only one who’s dealer has said the same (at least 4 now and counting)
I started this thread back in April 2021.
But I’m out now because I can’t fathom why people would not believe a word someone would say when they literally saw their dealer read a memo…and have a vested interest to hope something like this didn’t happen
To be honest I’m really pissed off

It basically said there had been reported issues in the manual transmission in overseas models. That for that reason they have stopped exporting manual cars, until such time as they can be sure there will be no further issues and any issue that is found is rectified, and they are taking the action out of abundance of care. They then stated that the next shipment of cars will hopefully be December which means arrival will not be till Jan Feb next year.
Why you guys would think I was hoping there is a delay when I’ve been here longer than anyone is beyond me.
Why you think a dealer would sit and write a memo to read me …is beyond me
Why you think we are getting cars, when not one dealer has any VIN numbers or confirmation they are on the ship …which means they won’t be here till next year regardless is beyond me.

I don't think anyone is accusing you of making stuff up. I have no doubt what you're saying is true. It's just weird that your dealer got a memo from Nissan when noone else seems to have. Maybe it was correspondance from Nissan to your dealer specifically (perhaps in response to a question) and your guy used the wrong word describing it as a 'memo'. Myself and I'm sure others appreciate your information sharing on the forum so it'd be a shame to see you leave.

I just spoke to my dealer and they have heard f all from Nissan. Being Australia's largest dealer you'd think they'd be in the know, but they're in the dark like everyone else. He was quite critical of Nissan head office, not just about the Z launch but just things in general. He did mention about there being a manual recall but I suspect he found out about that on the internet rather than through anything from Nissan themselves.

What is 'It'? (specifically I mean)
A memo yeah? Was it from Nissan Australia? Was it from Nissan Global? Was it the same one from Nissan North America that Mud posted above?
Was it directly to your dealer? Or was it meant for customers?

You go on to say that that reported Manual Transmission issue is the reason they are not currently exporting cars - was that also on the memo or your/dealers own intuition?

No one. Since digging at Midland City I've received plenty of calls and emails saying they’re happy to negotiate on price. I imagine they're questioning their gamble.
