... the heavier gas tubes? From the Nissan parts website, it isn't clear to me.

You're talking about the rear parcel cover? Yes, it requires heavier gas struts on the hatch to compensate for the pull.

When I looked at the regular Nissan parts site (Not the sparkly one you see when you build out a car), it had "if you do part # _____, it requires ________ part number."

I cannot find that link anywhere. BUT, It was the black and white parts website.

I was thinking about buying the tonneau cover too but it to expensive. I was buying the cover to hide the contents of the trunk.
As an alternative I decide to get the rear window tinted to hide the contents. It only cost $100 which is much cheaper than the cover.

I didn’t need anything… I just installed the cover myself in the boot/trunk, clipped in and it works fine.

Think this is what I'm going to do; Install the tonneau cover. Leave the gas struts stock. If they wear out in ___ time, I'll replace them then. It's not like it takes me an hour to fill he back hatch, and they have to do a lot of holding for a long time.

My 2012 370 Z came with that retractable cargo cover. My 2014 370Z did not, so I just kept it when I traded the 2012 and it worked fine on that 2014. When I bought my 2024 Performance Z, I was surprised to note that it didn't come with that cargo cover so I kept it again. That cover from 2012 fits the 2024 Z perfectly and works just fine using the gas struts that came on the new car. Maybe the new cover is different from the one it 2012.

Agree 370z cover works fine with original 2023 z struts

My dealer catalogue shows the struts are required. As such, they wouldn't sell me my cover without the struts also. It may work fine without them, but the extra load must put the standard struts outside their rated safe limits.

You may never have a problem with the stock struts. I'm not going to chance it.

That's certainly not my experience using the same tonneau cover on 3 different Z's with rear spoilers over the last 12 years, but if you can afford it, there's certainly nothing wrong with buying the new struts.

Naturally, your dealer would never sell you an accessory part you didn't need :ROFLMAO:, but if it was me, I'd order the tonneau cover from Z1 and wait to see if it didn't work before spending the extra $250 for the new struts.

I can't just get the cover from a reseller for cheap, anyway. I'd have to buy from an overseas seller and pay high shipping and import duties. It still works out far cheaper for me just to pay what the dealer are asking.

It's not even about the dealer upselling me, they're only offered as a package through Nissan Australia. I cannot buy the cover and not the struts (you can buy the struts alone).

Sorry, didn't see that you were from Australia. Different policies in different markets, I guess,

I figured being upside down would assist in opening the back hatch..... (I kid, I kid.)
