I am a few hundred miles short of when I thought I would be getting my oil changed, but the dash keeps telling me to get it done now. So, do I go by the milage or the computer system telling me to change it? I started getting the message late last week.

Absolutely by mileage, we recommend our tuned customers to do a fluid change every 3,000 miles for oil and every 10-15k for transmission fluid. It sounds excessive, but being aggressive about your maintenance- especially in a tuned vehicle is of utmost importance for longevity. In our experience the 9 speed transmission in these cars is not all that great and does 'cook' considerably quick depending on your driving and usage of the car. Of course not everyone is tuned and tracking their car hard. For stock vehicles we recommend an oil change every 5000 miles and transmission every 50,000.

And, for a non tune? Would 5000 miles be ok for an oil change?

back when i work for a research and development company, we built prototypes for the military that they could use for maintenance.

apparently some of the equipment goes by hours for oil changes rather than mileage. i guess that makes sense if a vehicle or tank is just idling in place rather than moving around...they are still putting wear and tear on the engine.

maybe the computer on the new Z is going by the hours the vehicle is running instead of mileage?

Maybe, but I don't sit an idle very long. It is my daily driver though. The warning message started about 500 miles before and became a get it done now message about 200 miles before the scheduled interval per the dealership where I got it done.

Stop and go traffic is also considered idling. Sometimes Im in traffic 45 mins to go 5-10 miles.

I always go by Mileage and change it when I get around 5000 mile interval

Luckily the majority of my commute is highway/interstate speed. Very little stop and go if there aren’t any accidents.

Must be nice. Our 2-3 freeways here in Seattle is a parking lot from 7am-6pm 7 days a week lol. Ok, more so M-F, but 2 lane with HOV is a parking lot every day at all hours
