Any thoughs on a plug-and-play tuning module for the Z Nismo?

you can reload the stock tune just like you can remove a piggyback. dealership will never know. z1 will provide the original stock tune so you can restore your ecu back factory faster than removing a piggyback. you can switch back while you are waiting on the toe truck - lol

Beyond internet lore where did you hear this? I know for certain this is not the case with the R35, Q60, Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel, and F150s and this has been the case for at least a decade on most modern cars. In ALL of the above cases peak boost is logged onboard the ECU in flash memory with the exception of the F150 which simply stores a base flag when params fall outside factory specs, specifically so dealers can see regardless if a tune (or piggyback) has been “removed”. I’d bet a fair chuck that even Will at Stillen will not post here that theirs is undetectable post removal, nor with JB4 etc.

OP does that mean a piggyback is ideal? No, many would never run piggybacks for a slew of reasons. I agree with you @thesilverbullet that EcuTek is the way, certainly for Nissan vehicles in my experience but it’s simply a platform for a tuner to work on, it comes down to finding a great tuner. A bad one can brick your car on EcuTek in seconds.

OP either enjoy as is or partner with a great tuner and enjoy what the VQ is capable above but either way, you simply must forget the notion that you’d be able to warranty claim a thrown rod or essentially any catastrophic motor failure. That said I’ve got over 100k miles on tuned Nissan vehicles spanning 3 and this f’n motor is S T O U T in the right hands brother. I’d vote full send especially if only considering basic bolt-ons to compliment a custom tune on EcuTek.

We've had quite a few dealers let us know after unhooking our tuner that their equipment couldn't trace anything back nor hit any red flags. but ultimately its up to the dealer if they warrant any work or not.

any kind of flashing of the ECU they will be able to tell even if you cleaned your ecu and threw on the stock map.

If your warranty is the main concern then maybe its not time to do any mods. Some people don't care about their warranty or some are willing to take a risk.
I like ours as you can run it while under warranty and while collecting all your parts for your build. By the time you are ready to install all your high HP goodies and go for a flash tune simply remove the Trucontrol and sell it for a few hundred bucks to help go towards your new flash tune.

I understand they are more pros about flash tunes however if you don't want to go that far i believe a piggy back tuner would be a good stepping stone for added power with not much money involved.
