Hi All...

Purchased a brand new 2024 Z Performance M/T on 07/05/24 and within the past 2 weeks it started to make a clunking/rattle noise I hear going over small bumps and making a left or right turn at lower speeds. The noise seems to disappear once over 30 MPH (SoCal has loud roads so maybe I can't hear it after that ). Noise started when I drove over a sliding gate rail pulling into a gated community. Originally thought it was the hatch not closed or the sub was loose or something was loose in the rear of the car. Double checked everything and still there. Made an appointment at the Nissan dealer where I purchased the vehicle and they "tightened" everything up but noise still exists. So.....

Upon reading on other forums, I have noticed on older Z's that it could be multiple things but the most common was upper mounts was hitting the rear wheel area and causing the same noise OR removed both rear shocks and installed shims to lessen contact with the cars body.

Im a chef, not a mechanic, any help would be great before Nissan gives me a run around.

Thanks!

I had some NVH gaskets made for the rear upper shock mounts. This is for true coilovers however as they transmit more noise to the cabin. On a stock car I dont think its an issue unless you have a bolt loose from the factory or something failed prematurely.

I had a similar issue and put the car on a lift to find my exhaust clamp had loosened up and had to retighten it, maybe check that out. I have a Z1 exhaust but the clamp was the stock Nissan clamp.

I have something similar going on, although the rattle sounds like it’s coming from fight behind the drivers seat. Also, there are times when I expect to hear the sound and do not, however, there is one particular rough road I drive most days, and it happens every time. Car is two weeks old. Let us know how your service visit goes.

I will admit that I've experienced a loud clunk/thud, at highway speeds over large breaks in the road. It isn't continuous and it doesn't happen at slow speeds.

I feel like it has to do with the hatch or perhaps the rear upper strut brace. Will have to listen more closely if I can.

Have an update, not much of an update but, dealer said, it's nothing outside or under the car.
They believe its coming from the inside, so now they have taken the inside of the car apart near the hatch area and they have kept the car overnight (driving a Sentra ) and will get an update in the morning.

@mikecarpage, I will also mention the upper strut brace tomorrow.

Fingers crossed they put it back together and don't break clips. I have lost all faith with this dealership.

Thanks Guys!

Car is back in my possession and seems to be fixed. Issue was Back Door Actuator. I have posted a picture of the service report for anyone that has the same issue.

On another note, they chipped the wheel in 2 places while having the vehicle. (Im assuming when they were looking for shock/struts in the rear they removed the wheel, and carelessly put it down or it fell over. Eitherway, they took pictures before going into service so they will see it wasn't like that...So annoying.

Maybe I will post about that too.

Glad they found your noise. I have some phantom rattles ive been trying to track down for months. That damage was not from the wheel falling over, they hit something. Looks like slight curb rash.
