The dream is to shift to working for Nissan directly so believe me this is just a start to a hopefully brighter and happier future. I had to start somewhere and with what's happened in my life a dealership was the easiest way in.
I would encourage that strategy of working for corporate directly!

The hot market for used full size trucks and SUVs is beginning to collapse. Soon, the value of these will be corrected by high gas prices. The sales manager at my dealership confirmed my theory yesterday, he said the auction values on trucks and SUVs has already begun a noticeable decline, and he even admitted that the price of the Titan pro-4x I was looking at will likely need to come down to invoice soon. He said "it'll be like 2008 soon" as we were discussing the prospects of these trucks.

However, I think vehicles that don't use too much gas will remain over-valued for a while as demand for them becomes even stronger.

Many manufacturers pivoted priority to the gas guzzlers as they are way more profitable. We may see "good deals" as the demand/availability ratio tips back in the consumer favor.

Now about companies like Ram and Ford who went "all in" bigger vehicles.....
100% truth. Truck and SUV values will continue to fall as gas rises. Sedan and small SUVs will rise as demand further increases. What was a great market for sedans will quickly change to trucks and SUVs as we struggle to get them off the lot. No one wants to buy a large vehicle when gas is $4.00 in some places and your getting 18MPG.

I saw some odd things at the dealership when buying my new car in early 2020 (pre-covid). A customer underwater with his current one year old car, and with bad credit, yet trying to buy a new car. Customer and the sales guy were working phones trying to arrange some creative financing.

And later some older guy, who every 15 minutes or so would stand up shouting and waving his arms, looking like he was leaving ... but he never did. Apparently that was his negotiating style, lol.

Most frustrating ever was many years ago, tagging along with my friend and his family as they bought a new car. We sat down and the sales guy said the price, and started listing off the options and extras they should buy. All that time I'm waiting for the negotiations to start ... until realizing ... there would be no negotiations! They were a very non-confrontational family (and not so good with money either), and were going to pay whatever the sales guy told them!
Dealerships are the closest thing to a modern rendition of the wild west that exists. I've seen people get arrested, fist fights, car pile ups, and more. They are crazy. Be transparent we don't budge on our online pricing anymore. We just put our best foot forward and you get to decide if you would like to buy or not. We offer cool incentives like lifetime powertrain warranty and such but "negotiating" isn't really a thing for most cars. There is that random car that we have had for 4-6 months that's been marked down losing thousands just to get it off the lot but even that car isn't negotiated on.

I intend to once I see my passion project with the new Z completed. I refuse to let this car fall into the same trap the C8, MK5, Bronco, Civic type R, and others fell into.

I retired a couple of years ago after working as a lender at a Credit Union.

When gas prices rose, we saw two things:. SUVs and truck purchases actually rose due to discounting and people who buy these things rarely think about gas prices. Secondly, we saw people trying to buy cars for others - typically due to bad credit - but they explained it away as buying another car to "save gas". ???

I had a lady today I was working with (you worked for a credit union so you will get this). 2 repos and the best bureau was a 502 and said that putting 1500 down was to much to ask. Like lady we got the call of a life time from a lender that you repoed one of their loans on a 25,000 dollar car that you couldn't live without. You don't want a more reasonable car that fits your budget so the bank sets standards. Your loaning money from them not us.

To rehash my earlier question about out the door price: You said not more than 5,000$ over msrp out the door. So I live in Texas, your in Oklahoma, so do you deduct from the 5 grand what it will cost me when I take the car back to Texas to register?

Hello everyone, my name is Shawn Stegall and I work as a salesman at a Nissan dealership in Oklahoma City OK. I wanted to start this thread as a way for people to be able to reach out and ask questions for someone who works on the dealer side of things. Please don't hesitate to ask any question or make any comments you may have!

A little about me, I first fell in love with the Z car platform around the age of 7 with NFSU2 and Grand Turismo. The 350Z has just always had a special place in my heart sense then. Which is probably a big reason why I own a 2008 350z Nismo #0875. I was a mechanic for 7 years before an auto accident made me rethink my career choice. I wanted to stay in the auto industry but hard labor was pretty much a pipe dream so I moved to sales. May 26th will be my second year in sales and I have to say I have seen, heard, and learned A LOT about how things actually work inside a dealership.

I'm affiliated with dozens of Z car clubs, groups, and forums. I try to make it to as many national meets (Zcon and Znations to list some examples) as work will allow and I have met some incredible people doing so. Knowing guys who work for aftermarket companies like Z1 and AMSPerformance as well.

I do what I can to help out the enthusiast community in any way I can giving advise anywhere possible. This passion project of getting as many new Z cars on the road as possible I've undertaken solo. I'm not "sponsored" by the dealership in this, they don't pay me to go to meets and I use my personal time to answer any questions or take any calls. Which my wife is getting tired of the Z but she knows how much of a big deal this is to me. So doing what I can in the position I'm in I figured opening up about the dealer side of things was the best thing. As well as helping out in any area I can like introducing people to other enthusiasts, build ideas, helping buy or sell Zs, good local Z shops, etc.
STI has been discontinued from production so scratch it off your lists.......

Oklahoma is probably a "reciprocating state", which means you'll pay your local tax rate and Oklahoma will remit that to Texas. You will also get your tag transferred by the store.

No that is of the price of the car. TT&L is not included. I mean I guess it will be 5k off the over all financing amount if you so chose to havae your TT&L included. Oklahoma is a bit weird in that you don't have to pay your TT&L at the time of purchase.

47,000 msrp plus 5,000 plus 3,250 ( tax ) plus another call it another 100 = 55,350$ to get the car titled in Texas is my guess.
That sounds high has hell. Oklahoma is 3.4% of purchase price for the taxes then a couple hundred for title and licensing fees.
