I'm in the same boat as you, getting really annoyed with the dealerships around me not knowing jack shit. I'm the 1-5 on few dealerships around me and told them I will not be paying any markups.
I'm willing to buy from another state if that means I don't have to pay any markups.
I’m in Florida and would be willing to fly to California to buy at MSRP and then enjoy my drive home.

You’re way late to the party to be calling around now. I’m 3rd in line at my dealer in FL and I contacted them like last April.

But luckily you can jump in front of me and many others if your pockets are deep enough.

We are all expecting this to be a nightmare getting a Z... but once official pricing and allocations are announced it will at least be easier to navigate this shitstorm

Don't count on salespeople to know hardly anything about the car. The average life of a salesperson is measured in weeks, and most are not enthusiastic for anything they sell.

Educate yourself, don't be afraid to approach management at their desk to get your place in line and to establish a relationship, have your financing in place before you go to buy.

Honestly this whole roll out is pretty embarrassing. Nissan has been saying since the reveal of the production Z that the Z won't be available for pre-order. So did they mean only in the U.S.? I have no idea, but either way it's a shit show.

I’m mainly just complaining. I’m not saying dealerships outside the US know more or are any better. I’m just shocked that you can preorder a vehicle and then call a dealership and have absolutely no information about it or even the name of it. Just stumps me.
Probably came out wrong…I didn’t mean for it sound like I though you were complaining….just agreeing with you in my abrupt way….even though I have a reservation, I share your lack of information frustration. It’s hard to stay positive and not let your eyes wonder when there is nothing forthcoming

You are 10th in line to a dealership that will potentially get 5 allocations for the year. They are just handing out reservations with empty promises of you getting one. Say they actually deliver and you get the chance to purchase, you are then at the mercy of them charging whatever they want for it.
If it makes you feel any better, I’m not 100% certain that all the pre orders in Australia will be filled. Rumour has it that a lost of the BIG dealers on the eastern side of the country have 20 plus orders….I live in a quieter state, but went to one of our bigger dealers here, and last time I checked he was in double digits too.
Im just not convinced they will have that many allocated especially in the first drop, and especially in Australia which has probably the smallest market
So while I’m extremely happy I got my order in, I’m still sceptical

im thinking what will probably happen is i will get a call from the dealer and it will go like this...

dealer: your on our list, we only got 2 in, they are going to go fast, do you still want one?

me: yes, what's the price?

dealer: msrp plus $15k adjusted market value...

me: wow...can you do msrp?

dealer: no sorry, they are in high demand and got a limited amount.

me: no thanks, I'll wait, bye.

*a few days later dealer calls again...

dealer: your on our list, we only got 2 in, they are going to go fast, do you still want one?

me: yes, but you called before and were asking too much, what's the price now?

dealer: msrp plus $12k adjusted market value...

me: bye felicia!

The waiting game has definitely hurt my excitement about the car. I was told by my dealer that they would have cars on site in mid Jan. so they could be trained on selling them. learning features and differences in trim and such. I gave our guy my number ( my family has bought several cars through same dude over the years) to holler at me when he found anything out. Haven't heard anything yet. To be fair though, I haven't exactly reached out to him yet either. Hell I work for Nissan and can't even get any info on our employee lease program and how the Z will be rolled out there either. No one knows anything or more than likely they aren't allowed to let anyone know anything yet.

Training usually happens on a Regional level, not at individual stores.

Hoping the Z doesn't go like the Ford Bronco launch. I'm a long time open-top 4x4 owner and off-roader, and the Bronco launch with delays (chips and stuff), component (hard top) issues, and extended period of big spenders ruling the roost, has been a downer. It's taking seemingly forever to burn through all that stuff.

Some people already have two (or in some cases 3 or 4) Broncos, while other folks are still waiting over a year for one reserved Bronco. Big turn off. It will bite if the Z launch gets drawn out like that into 2023 and 2024.

Just out of curiosity has anyone called around Southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois? I called nissan in Milwaukee and they had no information on the new z and the smaller dealers around my area are extremely usless.

Funny I have been a sales manager at same dealership for 36 years......
