Interior reupholstering (auto-trimming)

Hey guys

So, last piece of the puzzle for the visual appearance of the car for me is going to be getting some auto-trimming done, and rework the interior. I have some ideas and wanted to get peoples thoughts, so I've mocked up some AI photo's of the seats to give a rough idea of what it would look like if it were to be redone the way I (more or less) would like. Basically what I'm going for is a new color and material around the edges and headrest, and then the inner part would be somewhat of a call back to the 240/260/280 designs with the pleated style design. Not 100% sold on those rings but I've thrown them in there anyway.

Don't pay too much attention to the small details, ala the seemingly random change in shape, size, alignment of the headrest logo stitching. AI is great for mocking things up big things, but the finer details it kinda loses it's way.
Also rather than me spending more time on AI'ing the rest of the cabin, I'll have to get you guys to just assume all the other leather components on the dash, console and doors would match the color of the seat. (Any plastics would stay plastic, however at some point I will also be getting the carbon fiber pieces for a lot of the plastic interior parts.)

I have a 2024 Heritage Z, I think the seats look really good, if I could I would maybe add some orange stitching, in order to scratch that itch, I made one upgrade to the interior see the attached photo. I’m definitely interested in seeing what you go with. Who are you planning to use to do the upholstery work.

Did you add the orange in the seam? How was that done?

This is crazy, I had this exact idea. Even before I bought the car, I knew I wanted to retrim the interior in the style of a 240Z. I mean, it’s like you pulled that image out of my head, it’s almost exactly what I was imagining. Some minor differences: I plan to have the “pleated” section extend all the way to the top to meet the headrest, a la the originals. And I plan to do the center section in some kind of old school tartan or some other vintage auto fabric. I don’t think the old Zs actually ever came with that, but it’s definitely of the time. I’ve also thought about doing it in Recaro confetti, to kind of mix-and-match the ‘70s and ‘90s styles, just like the exterior design of the car. But, anyways, I think it’s great, I say go for it!

When you make the upgrade, please post some pictures. I’m always looking for good ideas. I had a 240 and two 280s back in the day. And I always love the way the outside looked, but I hated the way the interior had no technology. That’s why I love the 2024. It has the retro look of the old Z and the upgraded comforts of 2024. Although I always enjoyed rolling the window down manually. Same Girl same driveway in both pix. (Wife)
