Front License Plate Bracket (Canada)

Hi everyone! The Nissan Z front license plate bracket. I’m assuming it is screwed in with two bolts/screws into something behind the front grill. Is this correct? If I am too unscrew these two bolts/screws… The piece that the screws are in, is that something I can replace to get rid of the screw holes? Is it just a small clip behind the grill or is it actually attached and a part of the bumper? Thank you so much.

I'm assuming you're talking non-nismo. The plate frame has mounts that tuck in through the grill and screw onto the bumper skin/foam rebar behind the grill, and then has little "arms" up top that hang onto the grill and clip in. If you remove the bracket, you won't see the screw holes.

Personally I didn't like the buck-tooth look the plate gives so I designed a 240z -esque front bar that has it's own contoured plate frame that integrates with it, keeps the top row of the grill open for cooling as well, and the mounts for this also just screw into the rebar behind the grill.

So there will be holes in that backing behind the grill correct? Is that piece replaceable to get rid of those screw holes? Or is it attached to the bumper/grill and you would have to replace everything to eliminate those holes?

maybe easier with a photo- The red lines show where the screws go into the rebar, which is really a sandwhich of the bumper skin behind the grill, foam and the rebar itself that you won't actually screw into unless you use a 4" screw.

I suppose if you crouched down and look straight at it you'd see the holes inside the grill holes but it's gonna be pretty minor.

my front bar uses separate mounts that screw on first, then the bar snaps onto those mounts.

Thanks! So that bar in the base model that the screws go into for the bracket, can you replace that if you don’t want screw holes? Or is it attached to the grill/bumper?

So when you are putting the factory license plate bracket on the grill, you are drilling two screw holes into that brace that sits behind the grill. So like you said when you bend down, you will see two screw holes in that piece of plastic. If you didn’t want screw holes in that piece of plastic… Could you replace that piece of plastic or is it something that is attached to the grill/bumper.

oh i see. the part you drill holes into is part of the entire bumper skin from what I can tell. The little grill rectangles is installed in front of that part of the skin. So yes, if you pop holes in it, would be tricky to fix it unless you're willing to plastic weld the holes shut.

oh that's not my car, that's footage of someone removing the bumper to install the speed forme grille garnish. Lol I'm too lazy and it's too cold to drop my bumper right now. I designed my way out of that by making everything screw in from the front of the car

Id recommend just buying the mishimoto plate relocator. Looks better and super easy to put on and off
