This entire forum - "surely the 2022 WRX rear end can't get any worse"

Subaru - "hold my beer and watch this"

Typically, there's only 2 pieces, the bumper cover and rear diffuser. Now it will have 3 pieces; bumper cover, spacer, and rear diffuser.

El kinda reminds me of the B5/B6 A4. It can be fixed and if it puts down more power or is more reliable than the FA20 the redesign is alright with me. I read the MT WRX will have a shorter final drive ratio too (4.3 I believe).

I do think the last generation looked much better though. I passed on it. Shoulda woulda coulda.

Is there any chance the STI will look awesome?
Or do y’all think it will be just as bad.. but with nicer wheels and a wing?

Subaru SHOULD make it look awesome, but it feels like such a leap of faith given this abomination, so you're probably spot on re: wheels/wing.

I hope and think the STI will look better, it usually does look a lot better than the standard wrx

What an utter disappointment.

Plastic body cladding, 3 whole horsepower, lower redline, and a locked CVT in the top trim? Subaru, you've lost your way. Who did you ask about this?

An update on this front, too!

Saw it in person, and god the black is even more heartbreaking IRL. Which sucks, because the interior was not terrible at all. I jokingly said to another guy looking at it if I could just, stay in the car and never have to get out and look at the exterior, it'd be great!

Something else that was interesting that one of the reps told me - with regards to the STi, she said they were planning on "going dark" for a year or so and coming back with some redesigns, so I'd guess we could see it as early as a 2024 model? Only way is up with this thing, so perhaps it's not a total failure after all.

How awful does the rear bumper shelf look in person?
