Infotainment Upgrade 8" to 9" Possible?

This question has been posted on here a couple of times but the threads keep dying. I have a 2024 Nissan Z Performance but mine did NOT come with the 9" screen with navigation - my car was manufactured for the Canadian market but somehow ended up at a Nissan dealership in Georgia. At the time I purchased the car, I did not know the US Performance models had the bigger display unit option vs. the Canadian models.

I spoke with my local dealer, and they said if I did install a 9" screen they would attempt to program it to the car, but they would not do the actual installation. I don't have a problem doing the install as long as I know it's possible.

Can anyone give an actual answer to this... Is it possible to put the 9" display unit into a car that came with the 8" display unit from the factory? I would really like the bigger screen with built-in navigation and I'm also wanting the wireless CarPlay.

As you can see, the 9" Display Unit has additional connectors in the rear of the unit. Does anyone know what the additional connectors are for? Will my car's harness be able to plug into the 9" unit?

Did you get a discount on the car? I would be complaining to the dealer about this. Since the performance comes standard with 9" infotainment, which has GPS, wireless Carplay.

Where did you get those images?
I'm in Canada and would be interested in swapping to it too, but does it need to be programmed for it to work?

I got a very good deal on the car (45k new). It has every other Performance option, and also has different tail lights than the US version (has a rear fog light that isn’t available on US models.

I could have complained to the dealer I guess but now I’ve already had the car almost 4 months. I still love the car but thought it would be cool to have the bigger screen with better tech.

The dealer near my house did say that it will likely have to be programmed. They were not super knowledgeable about the infotainment system honestly. They said they have not had to work on many Z’s so working on the infotainment would be a first for them.

The dealer likely has a near zero idea of what they are doing. Your best bet is likely going to be looking at the FSM and comparing the wiring pin outs to determine what the differences are.

That picture is hard to tell, but I can already see a green plug on the 9" head unit that the 8" doesn't have so you will likely run into some issues there if I had to guess. Being that 9" head unit cars are also Bose cars, you may have to change the entire dash harness if the 8" model does not likely have the plugs you would need, but being that its Canadian I suppose an 8" with Bose is a possibility.


People generally talk about the Sport and Performance models like the only difference is the LSD when in reality its a ton of things. Headunit, cellular adapter, revmatch, etc. All of this is going to differ and will likely effect the wiring harness configuration, but being that this car is a Canadian performance spec, it kind of throws you into a weird combination of potential outcomes of sorts.


My biggest concern here would be that you were sold a Canadian spec car in the US market. If this was done brand new at a dealer I'd be livid (and also curious how that could even happen.) Who knows what issues you might run into with warranty or anything else down the line. I'd call Nissan North America honestly.

They were honest about the car being Canadian when I bought it, they just didn’t explain that Canada has different options. They had another car from Canada at the same dealership as well. I’m not really sure how the cars ended up here. And the salesman didn’t either.

I still have Bose speakers too, which I thought was weird with the smaller infotainment system. I have already had to have my trunk actuator replaced under warranty at a different dealership than the one I bought it from and there was no issue with using the warranty here in the US.

I'd still try contacting Nissan. You bought it knowing it was Canadian but part of me still feels like you should have been made aware of the differences. Whether you have a leg to stand on or not, well, that depends on what Nissan North America says.

You *may* be able to just swap the screens over, but as far as the compatibility goes, You probably will be better served by removing your head unit and getting a good look at the back to see if the requisite plugs are all there; If they are, then I'd move onto looking to make sure the pinouts are the same.

I also bought a Canadian spec Performance Z at a dealer in the US (although Minnesota is a lot closer to Canada than Georgia is). I also got a crazy good deal on mine, 43k for a new Performance trim Z. That seems to be the trend with Canadian specs sold in the US, they are selling for even less than the already pretty heavily discounted Z Performance US spec models are. But the obvious drawbacks are things like the smaller head unit, and the car adhering to strange Canadian laws, like the inability to fully turn off automatic headlights. I couldn't be happier with my car though. Strange to see how many Canadian spec cars were sold to US customers straight from the dealership though.

Also the performance in Canada is CA$62000 MSRP which is about is US$44860 so if you didn't get it lower than this amount you got ripped off.

These Canadian cars are also considered "grey market" vehicles in the event of the total loss in the USA and the ACV/FMV is much lower on insurance company valuation reports.

Ideally an insurance situation won't come up where the value would need to be determined, but I would not be surprised if insurance companies would pick up on that.

Have you tried to contact a Canadian dealership to know if they know the difference in head units and if they can be swapped?

Worse case for sure, just contributing to the conversation about these vehicles.

I bet OP could pick up a cheap 9" unit at a salvage yard and give a go at swapping them out without too much of an investment.
