Let me start off by saying I'm not a Nissan guru by any means. So let's say the new Z does come with a base 300hp model. Isn't it the same exactly motor as the Q60 Red Sport? If yes, can't you just get the base 300hp and do some tuning to get to the 400+hp mark?

The 400hp comes with some additional mods like optical turbo sensors. In theory one could get the lower hp version and tune it but I think there will still be some differences between the 300hp, 400hp and Nismo version. We will know all by this time next week hopefully.

If you bought the base and got an aftermarket intercooler and heat exchangers.. and tuned it. You’d basically be there I think?

Would you want to void your warranty?

The Red Sport motor is 400hp. I believe there is a Luxe/Silver Sport version with 300hp.

Q60, Maxima,
VR owner here( might sell them here and there). The only differences between 300 and 400 Versions physically is the turbo speed sensors and 2nd water pump. The rest is software. Some say the optical sensor limits the tuing ability, some say its there for protection.

The 300 makes the same power on a tune as the 400 with equal mods.

The hardest part of modding these cars is going to be upgrading turbos and swapping full Down pipes because of the space. Currently turbos replacement involves dropping an engine.
