I just got my car back from PPF and my guy mentioned the clearcoat seemed soft to him. I don’t know? I polished out the hood and front fenders, A pillar and roof with Meguair‘s 105 and an orange LC pad followed by 205 on a white pad before he applied the PPF. Applied with an old Porter Cable 7424XP and the results were pretty good Ithought. However, I need to polish out the rest of the car that wasn’t covered (doors, most of the rear fenders, hatch and rear of the car.

He suggested 3D Speed (not 3D One) and a white LC pad with a Rupes 21mm throw (just because I should get better rotation speed out it than the PC) and that should do it. I have been wanting to replace my old PC anyway but was leaning more towards DIYs 25 mm DA.

Mine is painted Solid Red with the Black roof and A pillars.

I looked at the engine bay and on the underside of the hood is a sticker indicating it has Scratch Shield. Guess I’ll be looking for a super soft polish.

Yeah that tricoat must be paint not the clear coating, the paint around my bumper and hood has chips in it exposing the aluminum without driving that fast. I have paint protection but I’m afraid the touch up will make it look worse so it is what it is
