Refinish Performance Rims?

I had a wheel repair shop fix a forged aluminum motorcycle rim that had a minor bend from what looked like a street reflector. While in their shop, they were paint matching wheels on a RR Cullinan that was damaged in transit. The good wheel shops are very skilled and take a lot of pride in their work.

Good on you for getting them to agree to a whole new wheel. Not totally out of line (IMO) considering that damage appears to have occurred out of negligence.

Thanks for the input. My thought process was, why take the chance or spend the extra time? I am sure a skilled refinisher could make it look decent, but for me it is more of a principle issue.

You can see the before and after. Before was just the flat tire, with the wheel in pristine condition aside from normal reflections. After the temporary tire install, the damage is visible even from a distance, not just under a flashlight up close.

I do like the idea of a mobile operator for simple patching situations, but I do not think I would use one again unless it was an actual emergency, which this was not. The biggest red flag in hindsight was that they attempted to patch the tire without removing it from the wheel. I did not think much of it at the time, but looking back, the damage probably would have happened anyway, so it is kind of a moot point.

At first glance, I thought it was just a simple nail puncture with only minor cosmetic damage externally. But as you can see in the attached photos, it ended up being much more significant. Had I known that from the start, I probably would not have hired a mobile service in the first place.

Totally agree. It’s annoying enough you have to deal with it in the first place.
