Hey folks, just wanted to post a few pics after hard-wiring my trusty Uniden R3. I've been waiting for it to fail me for about 6 years to justify something newer but it's a beast.
I've never had a mirror tap last longer than a year before it would flake out. I swore them off long ago and I'm happy to report the Z is the absolute easiest to hard-wire out of anything I've touched. I started with the Uniden hardwire kit which includes an inline control box to mute and power off but that is not needed, just a standard male RJ11 power/ground cable that can be had for $15 on prime.
I've got a performance Z with the interior lighting which included the accessory pigtail. Regardless if you have one or not, I'd buy one. At only $20 it offers a wide array of 12v connections and plugs right in down in the footwell, exposing many options. Here is the diagram on it and a link. Check to see if you have one already in the driver footwell behind the panel which overs the fuse box access port. I opted to leverage the white/IGN wire, most were unused. No need to tap a fuse or existing line, these are just sitting there for the tapping.
The resulting wire run is 100% invisible, no lumps/bumps or janky looking trim post install nor goofy taps hanging out the back. It nearly lept into place with the exception of a few transitions which I've included a photo for below.
This is the first transition, just pull that corner up with an interior pry tool or butter-knife and allow the cable to seat nicely into place.
Same as above, lift enough to tuck it back.
