Former g37 coupe owner, current gen 2 BRZ owner. A few weeks ago, I spent about a weekend with a '23 Z Performance 6MT and was very pleasantly surprised. Loved the old school sports car feel that the car offers (one thing I love about the twins). Love that they kept the gauge pods, just like in the previous iterations I've driven, but that was some years ago.
To be honest I never cared much for driving the 370z outside of its looks. The clutch and shifter in this new Z feels much better, more solid and engaging. Clutch feel is more intuitive. The shifter feels more mechanical than how i remembered the 370z. My main complaint is you cant shift it too quickly or the car doesnt seem to like it, and the mushy cable feeling I disliked in the 370z starts to resurface. But for most of the driving I did, the shifter was very nice to use
The car overall was a very nice space to be in, much more quiet and comfortable compared to the twins. The engine pulls smoothly and I much prefer how it's tuned compared to a base 718 Boxster (300hp, turbo 4) I also had for a weekend.
I expected the car to ride a lot softer given all the reviewers' complaints, but I thought it was perfectly fine. Granted there is a lot of body roll when you push it in turns, but I dont think every car needs to be aggressively sprung to be a canyon carver. Sure maybe it could be just a little stiffer, but I think the complaints about suspension tuning are somewhat over exaggerated when you consider that Miata's are also very softly sprung. For a GT sports car, I really liked how it rode
I still havent driven the current Supra. It's a *cool* looking car in person, but I wouldnt say it's a pretty one. some angles look odd; I think the Z looks more elegant and timeless and it looks and feels much more like a passion project. I might get around to driving a Supra eventually. I know they are great performance cars, but here is where I echo the sentiments about many reviewers (people like Matt Farah) in that I dont find them as interesting a car as the Z
