Finally getting close to getting my sound system upgraded. I have a 10W6 and Slash 6 amp from my old car that I'll install, but the components are just as important. SQ is my objective

For Install ease, I already ordered the plug and play harness from OWC. that should make this install MUCH Easier

A Few Questions:
  1. I am planning on a JL C6 set (6.5+tweeter). Would there be a Focal or Morel that you would recommend over those? Any other brand?
    1. Any reason to get the C7? I didn't see anything substantial enough to make the jump. Plus the 6.5" C7 speakers are THICC
  2. Any recco on an amp to compliment the slash 6 for the components?
    1. I have an old alpine KTP Power Pack. Would that be sufficient, or should I get something better?
  3. Is there any real reason to keep the rear speakers, or is ditching them fine?
  4. Is the stock speaker wire sufficient for the upgraded component or is upgrading critical with the speakers I'm getting?
    1. I'll probably end up changing out all the speaker wire since the car is going to be taken apart any ways, but someone else may stumble on this thread one day wanting to know the same thing. like at what level of speaker upgrade does swapping the speaker wires actually make a noticeable difference?
  5. I'll also be sound deadening the trunk and doors. anywhere else that you recommend deadening?
    1. Any rattle-prone areas of the car that you've had to reinforce?
Quality over cost and clout is my focus. I think that's all my questions for now. Thanks in advance!

If I was tearing the whole dash apart to get to the back of the head unit, I'd run new speaker wire.

I have a Sport, and only put in better speakers. I put in new 3.5" speakers in the rear. If all balance is to the front, I can notice. If I make it balanced (50/50 front/rear) the system sounds like crap.

The 3.5" holes are aPITA. They are meant for flush speakers. If you put 3.5" speakers with raised tweeters, they rest against the grate.

Many have just disconnected them and used them as high-level inputs for a dedicated sealed sub.

alright, well I ended up getting my system figured out. figured recycling my old sub set up and then getting an amp with integrated DSP

Decided to just go all JL.
  • JL Audio C6-650 Components for the doors/tweeters
  • JL Audio VXI 400/4i Amp for components. integrated DSP is clutch
  • JL Audio 10W6 in their enclosed CS110 case
  • JL Audio Slash 600/1V3
Going to sound deaden the floor, trunk, and doors too.
OWC Harness came in. looks niiiiiiiice.

looking forward to getting this installed!

Still haven't decided which way I'm gonna upgrade the system, so I decided to start with sound damping the trunk area. Using Kilmat 50 mil and went through about 25 sqft. Learned a few things while in the middle of the project: foil will cut up your fingers, don't wait until summer to start the job, and there are people out there that I will pay next time. I will just have the installers use the rest in the doors and in the area of the Bose amp during upgrade.
