I actually didn't dislike the Dunlops on my '24 NISMO. They were good for 1.2g (indicated) on an autocross course. Not as good as the 1.5g (indicated) on the RE-71RS I use for autocross, but still not a bad tire.
I've got multiple regional championships, many in my old 350Z as well as the BRZ that replaced it. I've trophied nationally at multiple SCCA National Tour, SCCA ProSolo, and the SCCA Solo National Championships, and have time in open wheel cars at Laguna Seca and Sears Point. I probably have...
I'm generally doing autocross, so I'm in first through third most of the time.
The only time I have any problems with the gears is when the transmission is cold, then I get a delay shifting 3 to 4. That doesn't happen any other time.
Different computer programming on the NISMO. Not really a big surprise.
My issue is more with myself: I originally had turning off the Emergency Braking on my setup list, but didn't systematically check whether it made a difference or not. I have now done that testing, it makes a positive...
Actually, holding down the VDC button for 11 seconds, when the "VDC Off" light goes off does disable VDC so it can't be changed without restarting the car. To "disable" traction control (throttle when the steering wheel isn't straight), you need to turn of Emergency Braking in the Driver Assists...
Verified at yesterday's autocross-disabling "Emergency Braking" in the Driver Assists menu seems to raise the limit on how much steering input can be active when accelerating. I've now gone from no throttle on corner exit to traction control ("blat") on corner exit with the throttle on.
So...
If snap oversteer is a problem-even with good drivers-that's usually an indicator that there's an abrupt change, either the computer stepped in when it shouldn't, or suspension hit a bump stop, or some other change.
I'm just going to have to drive the Z to the edge-like they are with the...
This thread is about discoveries I've made about the NISMO-and how to make it a better "autocross (and track) toy."
Nissan-like all of the other car manufacturers-are beholden to lawyers so they don't get sued into oblivion.
As far as the confusion about why "VDC off" doesn't include...
Well, Nissan doesn't actually "turn off VDC" - they change the tables so that the limits are higher before the computer starts to interfere. Yes, I'm holding the VDC button down for 11+ seconds to go through the TRACTION light coming on then going off. There's a VDC light under the bottom-left...
Thanks.
I got 3 national tours (RedHills, Lincoln, Bristol), 3 pro solos (Atlanta, Lincoln, Bristol), and numerous regional events out of them. I counted that I had over 100 runs before they pretty much heat-cycled out for national event use-but they still had tread. They would probably would...
Without turning off Emergency Braking, it's really difficult to get the wheel straight enough for the computers to allow the car to "not kill you."
This probably isn't as big a deal for track use, but for autocross we spend most of the course with the wheels NOT straight.
Update after ProSolo Finale (very wet), Solo Nationals, and ZCON autocross.
I tried the "brake pedal switch disable"-while this may work on the non-NISMO, on the NISMO this puts the computer into limp mode. I tried almost everything, plus I didn't drive well.
At the ZCON autocross, I tried one...
Well, I tried holding down the brake (ADCD button) today at the ProSolo Finale-the car was very unhappy. No launch control, no acceleration, once I got some speed, the computer seemed to be off-but it's definitely NOT the way to go for autocross. This afternoon I'm going to try holding it down...
