@Mud thanks for the pointers. I've also found that if I hold the unlock button a bit longer, it seems to give the hatch enough time top fully pop up.

I've noticed this a couple of times: I operate the hatch opener, either from the center console or the button hidden in the rear logo, and the hatch pops up a bit, but doesn't fully unlock. Then I try to lift it, and even though it's not fully closed, it won't open. If I press the button again...

It seems like this could be within the realm of possibility given the number of Zs that showed up this week.

Maybe the "cover" over the toe hitch receiver? Lower grille, passenger side? If so my dealer forgot to install that, too. It just snaps in. If it's the license plate bracket, there are instructions in the owner's manual.
