Price price and more price! If they dropped the current model $5k, it would help sell the car. It's not a bad car performance wise and still looks great, but it's just not a good value at its current price and the low sales reflect that. Doesn't matter how much improved the car ends up being if...
Exactly and they are at a point where they might have to discontinue and stop production if they can't turn it around. That's why a name change is good and a totally different philosophy. Return to roots and compete on price and size/weight.
They've badged the sportier cars Lexus (ISF, RCF, LFA). Unfortunatelly I don't think that's really given Lexus much of a sporty image. Too many old retirees driving the brand to overcome the image. And the FR-S they decided to badge a Scion. So really Toyota's image as appliances on wheels is...
Let's pit what the Z35 could possibly see as competition in another future vehicle.
Here's the Kia GT4 Stinger concept... info from Kia's site.
Basically 2.0L turbo DI 4 cylinder making 315 horsepower, 6 speed manual, RWD, 2,874 pounds and 52/48 weight distribution.
LOL @ that last pic Dantes. The Z definitely looks bloated next to the Scion.
And sadly it's also 400+ lbs heavier. Can you imagine if we got the VQ engine power in a package as light as the Scion.
The word is it will use high-tensile steel on the Z35 in order for it to weigh in at a class-leading 2,866 pounds.
Will that be doable with lighter steel and is it cheaper than aluminum? Seems the trend is towards more aluminum.
Rarely is anything major revealed in LA. when you can wait a few months and do it in Detroit to make the biggest splash why not?
I have my calendar circled for Detroit and fingers crossed that something is shown.
I"m curious how the 370z and FRS are pretty much the same size but 400 pounds difference??
The FRS even has back seats. Did they use some kind of lightweight material?
