Probably because canada had a cap on how many will be made for this year and it sold out pretty quick. We had set interior options + 8 inch screen only. Probably missing more but they even had that protospec with a 8 inch screen

Same as us here, although the proto is sold out…the other model is still collecting orders

Maybe they are testing the waters out in the smaller markets?

Either way, it’s just time to roll it out now, everyday we seem to see another one pictured, surely that means that are producing and should have cars to roll out soon.
I think if they drag it out too long they will lose people. Indeed they already have from this very forum. At last count I believe 3 have given up and bought something else.
Now 3 might not sound like a big deal, but remember this is a forum of people desperate for a Z, it’s going to take a lot for them to change their mind..,general public, not so much

Second the dealers were supposed to know allocations around April or May and sales were to begin in June. Now that was from regional and it was delivered with confidence.

Fast forward to last week with Nissan social media accounts saying that orders wouldn't even be an option for the US market I blew up. I was after the managers and our rep trying to figure out what was going on. When management reached out to regional we were told even they had no idea what was going on. So there is a huge communication error or round of misinformation circulating in Nissan's offices. I hate it but all we can do is hope that info comes out soon or maybe my messages or emails to Dan Passe reach its target.

I and other die hard Z enthusiasts will stick around for the Z but the longer this gets dragged on the more the 90% will begin to drop out for various reasons.

Don’t know if you know, but Dan is on the forum, we have a page dedicated to asking him questions. At first he was very forthcoming, but it’s dropped off a bit of late.
He does pop his head in if there are false rumours ( like 30k price tag) and he does try to find answers for questions not around delivery ( will the main display show navigation or just the 9inch display unit)
But sadly it seems he is getting less responsive…where as you would think as time gets closer mire information would be coming out

Oh you would be surprised with how many people stand firm on the idea of "I'm only paying for the car I don't need/want any of that extra garbage".

It is ILLEGAL for any dealer to REQUIRE any add-on product or service if the product's contract states it is an option and not required. Almost all product contracts state it is optional, and you must sign that product contract to accept it.

Your protection is usually two things: your agreed purchase price on your car, and your finance contract. Any additional products (warranties, service, GAP, etc) MUST be listed separately in a special section. If your Purchase Price is higher than your agreed price, they are packing and could possibly forge your signature on those contracts.

If you have any doubt, close at a local bank or credit union and bring them a sight draft (bank will remit funds when lien has been registered with the State).

We all know these facts, nothing new. But as long as many uninformed buyers keep getting taken, dealers keep doing the same practices as has been for a long time! It’s what’s making money for them.

But your missing the point….if ALL dealers didn’t mark up then it wouldn’t be accepted, and therefor even privately people would not pay outrageous prices, because they could order and wait for a car to come in 25k cheaper.

A Nissan dealer in Aus told me that the Z is the first car they have even asked for a deposit for, because in the past onselling just didn’t happen. The deposit is geared to stop people taking a risk and purchasing a car for the purpose of on selling.

I think that's a pipe dream, and here's why -

This whole notion of "if everyone did X, no one would overpay" is a complete meme. Expensive and affordable are relative terms. Why would someone go through the effort of boycotting a seller when they don't need it to be cheaper? Plenty of people can throw money at desirable items like these cars and they have no inclination to protest the "high" prices. I see people say the same thing about computer parts - graphics cards are thousands of dollars but guess what? Compared to the supply, there are more people who can pay that price with their eyes closed so the sellers have no incentive to sell for lower. They would be buffoons to do otherwise. There just isn't enough product going around, and there are tons of people with funds especially after the pandemic working from home or growing their investments.

Also I don't think a deposit will stop people from flipping these cars. $1000 is not a lot for investment. People are going nuts on property investment, and these cars cost peanuts in comparison. They will have a great immediate ROI so I don't see why you can't just deposit at a bunch of dealers then put the cars on autotrader if you had the money - which people do. My dealer was rightfully worried about this when I made my pre-order.

This whole "if no one paid extra prices would be low" is a complete meme. Expensive and affordable are relative terms. Why would someone go through the effort of boycotting a seller when they don't need it to be cheaper? Way more people can throw money for desirable items like these cars and they have no inclination to protest the "high" prices. I see people say the same thing about computer parts - graphics cards are thousands of dollars but guess what? Compared to the supply, there are more people who can pay that price with their eyes closed so the sellers have no incentive to sell for lower. They would be buffoons to do otherwise. There just isn't enough product going around, and there are tons of people with funds especially after the pandemic working from home or growing their investments.

Also I don't think a deposit will stop people from flipping these cars. $1000 is not a lot for investment. People are going nuts on property investment, and these cars cost peanuts in comparison. Is it true that the Service Department is now needed to step up the Dealership's profits by:
Insisting unneeded work needs to be done,
Charging $99 for an Oil Change, then adding $50 for the Oil, and $25 to dispose of the Oil
Increasing Shop Fees to $49
Using scare tactics that Brakes will fail without 4 new rotors that are warped and beyond safety spec
Charging $15 for the Complimentary Car Wash with Service
Adding a Service Lounge Waiting Room TV watching Fee ?

I'm not in the US, I'm in Canada. There is no ADM here either. That's precisely why you can guarantee profit if you flip a Z...they will likely be $10-15K over MSRP on Autotrader this year due to short supply. And I don't know what full car lots you're talking about...most car lots in Toronto are empty. People can't even get a Nissan Pathfinder, they have to wait half a year or longer. I went to a big Ford dealership and they had 3 cars left...literally 3 cars ?

That's precisely why you can guarantee profit if you flip a Z...they will likely be $10-15K over MSRP on Autotrader this year due to short supply. I went to a big Ford dealership and they had 3 cars left...literally 3 cars ?

As long as it counts towards the purchase of the car, the only barrier to entry is capital, no? Over here the deposit is refundable on demand as well.

Either way I'm glad it's not 2-5K here, I started my job the same day I made my deposit and paying that would not have been fun. This whole car dream thing has been one hell of a ride since I graduated last year, and it couldn't have been timed better. Glad I trusted the universe on that one.

That's why in an attempt to have some integrity with this mark up heavy industry instead of just showing on the window MSRP + market adjustment we market MSRP + CVP (customer value package). Twist it how you wish but instead of just charging customers a mark up because that is where the market is you get tangible items. Things like all weather mats, locking lugs, paint protection, scotch guard/leather coating, a lifetime power train warranty, and for those local 18 months of free oil changes and tire rotations, mounts, and balances.

A strategy I've heard of in Canada to prevent vehicles being taken resold is the manufacture/dealer holds a $1 lean on new vehicles for 2 years to prevent sales of new vehicles being imported to the US.
