I wonder if anyone can weigh in on this. I know coming from a mustang with an aod that installing a shift kit with longer and firmer shifts is said to extend the life of the transmission. so my question is does sport mode also improve the transmission life vs normal mode?

I'm by no means an expert, but "firmer" shifts sounds like some bullshit handed to you by the transmission replacement / parts industry. Transmission guy I know says that switching back and forth is what kills them... we were drinking so he may have meant idiots that are going into manual mode and then dropping too many gears to sound cool. I keep mine in standard mode most of the time, rowing gears constantly on a 7 mile commute with tons of stops and hills is not my idea of a fun drive. I can say that the sport mode in mine has some crisp goddamned shifts.

I've read a little bit about this recently. my thought process behind this in normal mode the transmission prioritizes comfort and slips between gears, which you know increases heat and wear. With a firm shift like we see in sport mode that doesn't happen.
