Why Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine Has Sent Automakers Scrambling

Why Russia’s Invasion Of Ukraine Has Sent Automakers Scrambling - YouTube
The harnesses made in Ukraine are for BMW Benz and VW. Paladium for catalytic comes from Russia is 45% of world supply and I think this is likely the biggest problem for Nissan. I know Toyota Tundra (stolen cat) has this problem with getting supply to their customer; my co-worker been waiting for new cat since December 2021.

I owned a '92 Cavalier and a '98 Monte Carlo. I had well over 150k on both when they got totaled (RED MEANS STOP, PEOPLE!!!). I had to put 2 alternators on the Cavalier and had to rebuild the transmission at 140k on the Monte Carlo, but other than that they were more reliable than many other cars I've owned.

It may (or may not) be irrelevant to you personally, but it's totally relevant to the poll question which simply asked which were the worst manual cars people had driven, not the worst current manual cars.
So then, why the hell did someone go all the way back to U-Haul offering a manual moving truck (BTW I'm a product of the 80's, so you need to go back further than that) and not go back even further to those old times cars that were truly difficult to shift? Some of those old cars the controls were all over the place, and what looked like pedals for gas and brake were usually pedals for choke and starter. Throttle was on the steering wheel and shifting took extreme coordination.
Anyways, jalopnik is becoming a shit show lately.
One of their recent pieces the journalist was writing about how much fun side-by-side are, then devolved into an anti-trump tirade.

"There’s one final thing that we should talk about. Readers expressed concern in David’s piece about spectators who more or less turned the event into a quasi-MAGA rally. Sadly, the experience was similar for me.

In my time out there it was more than just a dumb chant and thousands of “Let’s Go Brandon” flags. Some flew racist, anti-Semitic and anti-LGBTQ screeds, openly broadcasting hate. That has no place anywhere and there’s no excuse for it.

Off-roading is an activity that at its core is for everyone. The beauty of off-roading is that anyone with practically any vehicle of any price can send it down a trail. So it’s greatly dismaying to see what happened out there. I’ve been to off-road events where people flew all kinds of dumb flags, but it was taken to another level here. Most of the time I stayed by myself, away from the toxicity.

I’m sure the organizers are aware of it, but I will reach out as I was far from the only one who felt this made things unwelcoming for King of the Hammers’ targeted audience. I’m not really sure what could be done, but it was legitimately disheartening. Hopefully, things will be cleaned up because this event is something special, but currently not for all."

It was a user poll and obviously nobody though to add them - you're probably lucky if a couple of dozen people in total even bothered to answer. Nobody ever said it was 10,000% scientifically proven accuracy of every car ever made. Good grief.

No one would take this up surely?
The things they are deleting are safety features, and that means higher insurance prices for life …not to mention the safety aspect
I don't think it's an optional option, if you get my drift....

Those options are super sketchy.
My wife has a new Toyota with all that crap. It's not even 90% reliable, makes mistakes, misses close calls, fails to brake sometimes.

I only use the driver's aids as either a "second set of eyes" when backing up or changing lanes, but I still look over my shoulder or behind me. I also like the self-driving function for when I need to sneak a quick look at my phone.
Otherwise, I don't miss that tech at all on my own older vehicles.
In fact, my insurance agent said that the cost to insure my son (soon to be new driver) would still be cheaper in my Titan or Q60 as the driving aids on our Toyota don't offset the inherent safety and lower replacement/repair costs (Q60 still worth the same as the new Toyota).
Fancy tech costs big money.
Our new Toyota has sensors in the grille and both side mirrors, and each LED headlight is $1200 to replace. Even a minor fender-bender could cost 2x more in her Toyota than my Q60 because there's too many exposed fancy bits.

I agree, nothing is better than old fashioned look left right and left again….but the insurance companies don’t see it that way.
They will charge more to insure a car without said features, that’s a fact

^ Most insurance companies will charge you more just because it's a sports car, more again if you're male, and even more again if you're a young driver, because much of their crash and stolen car data is thanks to the illegal street racers. :(

That is very true…but they also charge you more based on, how old the car is, where it will be kept ( suburb as well as road/driveway/ garaged) if It has an alarm…and what safety rating the car gets.
I found it hard to get the Peugeot RCZ type R insured. I’m a female driver in early 40s then, in one of the safer suburbs, in a garaged environment . But it was a high powered car, with not a great safety rating….only RAC and SGIO would insure it at all…and only RAC was have way acceptable price
