Take away point: The rear springs on the new Z are identical to those in the 370Z. Up front, springs and struts need to be swapped.

Top strut (black) off of the new Z vs 370 (silver) on the bottom.

nice so you used a 370z coilover, does it fit perfectly, or needed some adjustment to be fitted?

I'm sure the narrator was referring to the change-over from spring bucket to dedicated toe arm depending on whether you intend to run true coilovers vs the OEM divorced option in the rear.

Rear springs are identical, but what about spring rates? Did they install just springs and 370Z front struts, or full coilovers, a bit unclear?

From what I interpreted, Soho had to use 370 dampers in the front with the Teins to get it to lower the desired amount. I assume they just reused the stock rear struts and subbed the springs.

I don't get why you would change springs only - change the whole coilover. Why not add performance to the suspension. Instead of spacers why not go with a larger tire and adjust offset - not judging, it's a serious question on both counts. If it's financial then ok I get it - if it's not then why.

What if someone really likes the OEM Rays, but just want flush fitment?

There's also market out there for people who just want lowering springs. Similarly, there's also an ass for every seat.

I think I fall in this category. I love the OEM Rays. I just want to have a better handling of the car and for looks.

do you recommend coilovers or lowering springs?

I've had both. When I couldn't afford coilovers, I was perfectly happy with the stance I got from a set of Eibachs. However, I personally feel that front and rear ASBs will improve a car's handling characteristics more than just upgrading the suspension with lowering springs only. You should be able to buy springs and sways for several hundred less than the cost of a set of decent, entry-level coilovers, but you wont get their level of adjustability.

Anyone interested in what it might look like lowered - below pic shows 1" drop in the rear, and 0.5" lift in the front (air cups).

Seriously... don't try to lower without air cups... the black lips scrapes on ev.ry.thing.
OEM Rays fit perfect with 1" drop. Would recommend 15-20mm spacer to fill out the guards a bit. Illegal here :(

I don’t like the slammed look but want to lower it. Maybe 1 inch in both front and rear?

Stock Rays are still good looking IMO, unique to the Z. If lowering just for looks, remember that stiffer lowering springs will work BUT the damping will be thrown off - bouncy ride results. Lowering springs AND performance shocks will work better. If wanting to do more serious driving, tracking, might as well save your $$ and invest in good coilovers with multi-adjustments and you can 'balance' or corner-weight the car. It will transform the floppy Z. Plus with coilovers you have more clearance to work with for wider wheels, i.e. less need for spacers which can mess up wheel bearings, fender rolls, etc...

About spacers, thin ones are OK but if longer than 20 mm you'll need longer wheel studs (ARP, etc) or your lug nuts won't have enough threads to seat the wheel...BAD!

Just some things to consider, I've been through much of that earlier in life. Lessons learned.

The rear end in that shot is 1" lower than stock for reference.

Here is another shot of it with 1" drop (coilovers) with stock rims and street legal stance.

Yep stock suspension is really bad.
Coilovers made a huge difference đź‘Ť
