Been very happy with Nissan/Infiniti/Datsun over the years, seems to be just a bit ahead of other JDM makes on the performance side from the factory, no problems with reliability also.

-71-73 240Zs owned 4 over the years, current one as you can see, street legal tracked with RB26DETT, Z32 manual, R200, etc....
-08 G35S sedan manual, nice motor but hated the touchy high take-up clutch even after some pedal adjustments. Bought new
-00 Maxima SE manual, fun easiest to drive Nissan with minor susp mods, stock engine. Bought new
-06 Xterra Off Road current lifted 10K+ mods for rock crawling and overlanding

49219 miles. Two trips to the east coast in 2008 and 2012 for HS and college 50th reunions; a few to the Texas coast to visit snowbird cousins; and several trips to Austin to COTA for the first three USGP's there; otherwise mostly local trips.

Want to ride along from the windshield GoPro in June 2013 on three laps of COTA with NISMO Performance Academy? In YouTube, search for RevZafod and find the video "Third set of 3 laps...". Pro driver in a NISMO 370Z leading the pack of five GT-Rs, fallbacks every half-lap. Best full-screen with headphones.
That was an absolutely awesome video!!! I will keep that bookmarked for whenever I'm having a stressful day. Thank you!

Whenever I felt stressed, I went SCUBA diving worldwide, or went to see some of my favorite bands play. Lots of those at RevZafod on YouTube, including two porn videos. One starring ladybugs on an eggplant leaf and the other with worms thirty feet down..

I was at COTA for Nismo Academy too! Most fun I had with my Z. EVER.

Biggest takeaway - the incredible amount of concentration it takes to drive fast, and as you noted, we were only playing "follow the leader". By the end of a full, hot, June day in Austin, people were actually passing on the opportunity to take GT-R's out. I took advantage of every opportunity, but was totally spent by the time everything was shutdown.

I really don't know how drivers can do it for several hours, let alone a 24 hour endurance race. Special breed.

Shout out to gurney for my invite to the Nismo Academy. I had an absolute blast driving on the track.

Very interested to check out the new Z. I put 100K miles on my 2011 370Z in 6 years of daily driving. Last few years I've spent converting it to NA track build (more parts hoarding than installing lol).

*edit - I guess I should mention that I drove a 1981 Datsun Stanza 2dr hatchback in high school. It always peeved me that my grandfather bought an automatic but I couldn't complain cause free.

Well, to be fair, in 24 hour races there are 2 or 3 drivers per car. But the ones that impress me most are F1 drivers. Possible commentary on F1TV: "He had a lousy qualifying lap and wound up in third place, 0.010 second behind pole position." Not to mention the way the F1 cars are built, so that drivers routinely walk away from 180mph crashes, as Max did at Silverstone. Not to mention Romain Grosjean's escape from the fiery wreck last year.

If only we'd had karting in 1946 when I was five, I coulda been a condendah!

Will be my first Nissan. I've had a mix of Honda, VW, Audi and Fords over the years. Loved the 1990 300ZX when it came out, and I had two colleagues who owned them. My brother has campaigned a 280ZX in LeMons for many years, but I've never driven it as it's not street legal :)

I've owned a few Japanese car makers, Mazda, Toyota, Honda and various other German and American. This will be my 2nd Nissan, but have Infiniti as well, so Nissan-related. :)

'99 Maxima SE - Loved that car!! Gave it to my father who still drives it (181K miles)
'07 FX45 Infiniti - Sold to neighbor. V8 POWER!! (~100k miles)
'17 Q50 Red Sport - current daily

Side note: My sister sold her '94 Maxima two years ago with just under 200k miles. Didn't get much for it, but is still on the road as far as I know.

So the "reliability" posts seem odd to me, but people do have different experiences.

The new Z will be my 3rd Z car. Previously owned a 1978 280Z and a 1990 Z32 TT.
