I keep seeing threads about other cars that might be alternatives.

If the requirements are:
New car
Under 50k
10 lbs per horsepower
Rear wheel drive
Manual

I only see one other option. The Mustang GT.

Correct?

I think you might be right. There really aren't a lot of options when you narrow it down like that.

I haggled and haggled (before car prices went crazy) and got my 3.0 A90 new for under $50k. But those days are clearly gone.

Alternatives might not necessarily have the same parameters to work with
If i don't get a Z, I’d be looking at two quite different options…the Mazda MX5 ( Miata to you) or perhaps the Mini electric.
I’m not really ready for an electric car, I would prefer the Z, but if I can’t then I might as well get on board with the inevitable future of motoring

BRZ/GR86 with turbo or supercharger - buy it now NA and drive it that way for a while - FI solution will probably be out soon (maybe sooner than you can actually get your hands on a Z for <50k ? )

That would make the twins rocket ships. I love it. Wouldn’t even need to be a huge HP jump, feel like 300whp with that weight/chassis would be mental. Budget brand Lotus

Not too many people know that with a base Mustang GT (460hp) around $40K you can have Ford Performance install at a dealer the Roush Phase 1 or 2 supercharger kits, at 700 and 750hp, respectively, with factory warranty. At these powers, more cooling is needed if want to do prolonged runs but for short pulls, i.e. drags, it's a huge power option with warranty 3yr/36K, plus it's CARB emissions compliant. Check out all the details.

the Mustang and Camaro are not 2 seater sports cars, but they obviously could be cross shooed with the Z.

more Direct competition in the Americas would be :

Supra
BMW Z4
Corvette C8
Porsche Cayman/Boxster
Audi TT

The Miata is a fine sports car, but it’s not a direct competitor, lower price and horsepower. Having said that I would consider a Miata if the Z is priced o er what has been announced.

The Toyota MR2 seems to be a future rival, it will be electric and smaller, still a very direct competitor but not in the como2 or 3 years.

The GR86 and BRZ are selling for msrp in my area. I know they're not direct competition for the Z but I love those cars. I've been so tempted to just go for it. I mean I'm feeling like I'm missing an opportunity here due to waiting for this damn Z lol.

Sorry but you don’t know how capable the S550 chassis is with Perf Pack and Magneride. Check published test results and track times.

Sad thing about the TT is already has its foot in the grave. Audi is releasing the final editions and then one last run and they are gone. We are only taking orders for them right now as the allocations will not be built until late this year. sad because I liked that car, just never felt like it would be a good daily/track car.
