I've seen a lot of reviews that mention the homage to earlier generation Z cars.

The hood and the headlights.

The tail lights.

But what about those exterior door handles? Does the Z pay homage to the 350Z and 370Z with the vertically hinged exterior door handles, or is it simply parts bin?

One of the early Nissan PR videos I’ve seen mentioned the door handles were Peter Brock’s input.

Definately not parts bin as a lot of reviewers have said. They're a brand new part.
I probably wouldn't say homage either.
Maybe just an evolution?

I've thought about getting my door handles wrapped silver when it arrives to pay homage :)
But wrapping on door handles doesn't seem to work the best or last the longest

as @Mud mentioned, its not a parts bin item. id agree its an evolution, but feel it is a tribute to the 350/370's vertical design. also note the placement at the edge of the door...

I really liked the metallic contrast to paint on the 350/370.

that certainly looked good when it matched the factory wheel color.

when people started mounting rims in different finishes is when it stood out.

i think nissan went the right direction color matching them this time around.

Don't forget, it's essentially a 370Z door.

Might as well throw in the Z31 ZX Turbo asymmetrical (symmetric for the VR30) for more homage on the new Z ;)

Here's the video I was thinking of, skip to 4:30 for the comment re the door handle design:

Minor but pretty cool, I feel like you can look at every part of the car and see where there's some design cue. The other random one I like (I'll have to find the reference) is that the steering wheel is referenced from the R32 GTR.

Found it...5:20 in this video. 1:00 in is a good explanation of the rear lines as well, creating that muscular shape probably somewhat explains the fuel filler door too.
