Hey folks, our Z spent a year in NC then onto KY. The car has less than 3k miles on it. We've always garaged it and while working on it I can't help but feel almost every piece of weatherstripping and grommet I put my hands on feels excessively dry and/or stiff for their age. We sold a beloved 350 to a family friend a few years ago and his are still looking incredible. The only difference being that both my brother and I applied shin-etsu silicone at least once over the course of a decade with the 350.
I know materials have changed over the years and I've read that lubricating weatherstripping and such ins't necessary any longer but the grommets I pulled while installing my AMS intake were so dry I ended up slathering them up in shin-etsu and they re-formed and looked new in seconds. While laying ceramic down I was pretty surprised at how dry the hatch stripping felt. It isn't misshapen or anything, in fact it looks new still but it just feels as though it has sat cooking in the sun for a year. Very dry, almost paper feeling.
I'm tempted to treat this 23' like our 350 and lube all seals that I can reasonably access but wanted to bounce the idea off y'all in case anyone either noticed the same or has more modern or updated means by which to keep them functioning & looking like new.
