The latest speculations point to the new Z being powered by the VR30DDTT twin-turbo V6 3.0L engine outputting 400-500 hp.

What do you think the final output will be?

i would assume regular model 400-450 max and a nismo being the 450-500hp mark.

best part, the engine has been out long enough there's a bunch of parts already available. i assume minimal research/tests would need done to alter the parts like exhausts to fit the new car.

So does the "400z" name stand for 400+ hp now? Twin-turbo V6 going to be so tuneable for high power. And sounds like the power figure will top the new Supra straight from the factory.

yea if it is 400Z i guess thats the angle? the name has always been based on the engine displacement.

i do like that it'll top the supra figures and i assume be on par with it in the weight department.

400 has to stand for HP. That figure in displacement is not realistic in this day and age.

I actually think it may initially come in with two options: 300hp base and 400hp sport. Then later a 480-500hp Nismo.

The only issue with the VR30 I have is.....it's going to be way more expensive to add power than the Supra.

and I would throw in that there are more things that can potentially break and go wrong with a V6 and therefore be more expensive to maintain. An inline 6 engine in general is has many advantages over V6. Better balance, one cylinder head, one turbo, one intake, etc, etc..

To that I say....

Not once did I have to do anything to a VQ35HR (4 years) or VQ37VHR (4 years) aside from Oil/Plug/Air Filters/Fluids.

I don't even wanna get into what my N54 needed in 2 years, I will say it needed more attention than my VQ's combined, it's starting to come to light the B58 needs TLC as well.

Only VR30 Issues I've heard about are the early ones (16-17) eat serpentine belts.

Same here, no engine issues with my 350Z or 370Z.

Is that all you kept it for... 2 years? I'm on year 7 myself and the car is 13 years old. Finally replacing the original clutch/flywheel and rear main seal this week. I prefer I6's as well, especially true TT ones like mine, but they're not for the faint-hearted.

Yep, 2 years. A fully loaded 2011 BMW Z4 35i, Purchased CPO w/ 32k miles on the clock back in Jan '16 for a whopping 27k (car was 67k MSRP according to my build sheet)

Within a week of me buying it, the top broke - had to replace the pre 2012 hydraulic lines with post 2012 ones (issue on all BMW HTCs)
- $2,400 outta pocket

Stock BMW wheels are swiss cheese, I cracked wheels to the point I couldn't repair them anymore
- $2k + tires

Infotainment died, had to replace the whole thing
- Thanks CPO

A/C drain seals are a common Z4 issue, if I kept the AC on too strong for too long the carpet would be soaked from condensation - Required dash removal to fix.
- Another $2k+ to fix that I didn't bother with

Plugs and Coils every 30k miles
- Outta pocket

Oil Filter Housing Gasket
- Had it done when I walnut Blasted the first time

30FF codes, wastegates were shot
- CPO replaced one of the turbos, refused to replace the other one

DCT started leaking (common BMW DCT issue)
- Knew it was time to sell when I saw this

M suspension (mag ride) - Had to replace the whole thing
- Thanks CPO

Longest I had that car running right with no issues? - 4 months. Every time it went down, it was at the dealership for a month, at least.

I've never been so happy to get rid of a car in my life, I went Z4 after years of problem free ownership with a 350Z and a 370Z. The Z4 gave me more problems than my 240k mile S13 did - At least when I replaced shit it stopped being an issue on that car lol

I will admit though, On a nice day when it was problem free and running right with a tune.....pure automotive bliss. The car didn't feel it's weight at all and it was perfectly balanced with the top down.

This is what keeps me going. FCP Euro's lifetime warranty on practically everything helps a lot with parts (even oil) but with these cars the labor in either time or $ is what really gets you. Mine kills plugs every 15k-20k miles, but it's pretty expected running the highest OTS tune. Can't tell you how many OFHG's I've replaced and about that 30FF... it's pretty much life ?. Was hoping to get a Nismo Z before having to make a decision on the turbos but I'm not sure how much longer they'll hold on. She was a beaut btw.
