I hate the way car manufacturers insist on misnaming the year of their cars. Nissan are releasing this car in 2022, so it is the "2022 Nissan Z", not 2023.

Magazine printers often do the same thing (labelling it as the "August" issue, but it's in stores in July, was printed in June, and written in May!)

I always took it to mean 1 like one off proto and then 23 is Ni San in japanese. as thats why its their racing number and May 23rd is Go Nissan day 5 2 3 = Go Ni San
