Technically there has been no Supra concept. The FT-1 was a company wide sports vehicle concept not specific to any vehicle and the long delay is probably why they didn't want to it call it Supra. I'm sure the actual concept in Tokyo will borrow heavily from it.
The Z is NOT going to take...
The Z's competitors still offer a manual so it too must, even if it has a relatively low (and decreasing) take rate. It would instantly lose street cred.
True tho the camaro is a more enthusiast/ performance car overall than the Q50/60.
Anyway I'm relieved it looks like we'll be getting a TT V6 after all and not a hybrid or any of the other rumors pointing to a watered down Z. Also a 4 banger only just wouldn't be right. I'm disappointed Ford...
FINALLY some good info. Thanks for posting. There is hope yet for the Z brand! Drop the 400hp version and some weight and this thing will be back at the top of my want list.
Interesting that the more powerful version will be released first followed by the detuned one.
At this point I'm sure we all know 2016 is a no go, but really? no imminent confirmations for 2017 and beyond? I gotta think all those rumors were not just fantasy. They even hyped it with that Jay Leno visit.
Would you happen to know if what fpenvy posted is true... a Z concept car is being...
Wooo... Please post it here if you see anything (Sunday not Monday, we can't wait that long!! lol). I was expecting a production Z in 2016 (obviously not anymore) but hey I'll settle for a Z concept car NOW. Don't forget about us little people :)
x2
This was no low level rep either. De Vries is Nissan's corporate vice president and global head of marketing and brand strategy. What he says carries weight.
Good idea. That way you get to learn the car's handling and tendencies too. I always laugh when someone slaps a turbo or SC on the car right after buying it. You don't even get to enjoy and experience the car as the engineers intended it to be.
I dont see why it has to be a price leader. The Z has never led in that cateogry and it sold just fine. It's for a different buyer than the Mustang and Camaro which really are not pure sports cars and are used as drag racers, grocery getters etc.
So with the news that the IDX and Eau Rouge aren't likely to be made and the company is instead going to concentrate on more core (mass volume) models are we seeing Nissan go the way of companies like Honda that basically abandoned sports cars?
Worst thing that coulda happened to Nissan was...
Of course they don't it's like 6 years old and on its way out. What everyone should be talking about at this point is the Z35 Z-car but Nissan seems to be completely tight lipped about it :(
The mustang managed to modernize with only a small increase in price. The next Z is going to compete with it for sure now it has IRS and they are selling it overseas. It's becoming more than an American muscle car.
I hope Nissan is taking notes of what it is up against.
Team up with who though? Wasn't there a rumor they are doing so with the entry level sports car (IDX?) I hope it benefits the whole line up if they go that route.
I'm always curious what cars people are looking at when in the same price range/class.
I've been eyeing a used C6 vette to be honest. Even thought about the new Mustang after hearing it has IRS.
